Probably still stupid

Post by MattShepherd »

Anyone ever tried a dremel with some sort of soft attachment? Just curious. I've had terrifically good luck with the electric toothbrush, so now I'm wondering if anyone has gone high-powered.

pinesol is like dettol over here. not too great but does seem to work (it's better on plastics i've heard). nitromors is proper paint stripper for proper jobs. not sure but you should be able to get some over in canada / the states.

Not sure what detol is over there Evil Git, but you should NEVER :o put plastic minis in Pinesol as they will melt :o :o ! Cheap brake fluid works very well AND safely on plastic (and metal too, although I will usually use Pinesol on my metals).
Yeah, getting paint out of deep grooves sucks  (use a needle and wire brush). The remaining paint shouldn't hinder new paint, just "some" detail and as stated previously, make sure to use a dish soap to rinse off ALL the Pinesol or the NEW paint will not sit very well.

Stripping paint

Post by Old Skol Elf Coach »

on a lead miniature what i do is take a bread tie, tie it around the slot and hang it into Klen-strip paint remover. The heavier one works best the paint will come off in sheets with a tooth brush

Well, I've spent 45 minutes a day over the last three days with a pin scraping paint out of crevices.

Next time I buy old figs I'm just gonna leave the &?%$ things painted.

As mentioned earlier ... just use brake fluid. It really gets the job done! It isn't very messy compared to other products, and in my experience it takes off most of the paint, even from the crevices!

Yes, brake fluid works well on metal and plastic but it's not very biodegradeable and shouldn't be rinsed down the sink or stormdrains at all, though I'm sure there are lots of things we regularly put down them that we shouldn't. I definately wouldn't rinse brake fluid down my kitchen sink.

It also doesn't take off really old primer the way some other products seem to. That's the only real issue I've found with it.

I did, and I cannot recommend it. Used a little brush /w plastic bristles attachment and started brushing away on a dry mini (on it's outstretched arm / fist). The paint came off, then the fingers of the mini's fist started to melt and fuse together. I brushed half his hand clean off before I noticed the smell (since I was wearing those over-the-top protective goggles to protect my precious eyes.) My precious Chaos Warrior got a claw.

Chairface, I just used your suggestion on 3 minis I got from e-bay yesterday. The Canadian Tire spray and a toothbrush had the "mystery" paint cleaned off in about 20 minutes with no damage. Thanks!
