there's a shop in my home town where they sell valleyo paints.
good paints. I use their mat varnis some times but I think all my varnishes make the model less cool. so I don't use them anymore.

If you want fast reliable mail order you could try

http://www.nugaming.com/

So far they've been great whenever I've ordered from them. And postage is free.

To add to E-Gs suggestion, the Ian Allen book/train shop near Picadilly station in Manchester sell the model range of paints that Fanboy don't carry.

http://www.nugaming.com sells the game colour range of vallejo paints (i.e. the GW equivalents) but not the model colour. Not sure about the varnishes though.

For matt varnish, check out the winsor & newton acrylic matt varnish from any decent art/paint shop. It dries totally matt and IMO is harder than gloss. Pick up some decent brushes too, they're usually better than the GW ones.

Indy you like the matt Windsor Newton varnish... really any use for figs? I tried some before but sure mine was very dry looking - mine could be old pot.
