tiebreakers in league play

Post by Haar »

How do people out there handle tiebreakers in league play? If you have two teams with the same record, how do you break ties? If there are just two teams, you could look at their records against each other, but then you get a rock-scissors-paper thing if you have three or more teams. You could look at TD ratios, or margins (some formula that takes as input TDs for and against). You could look at TR, or total SPP, or any number of things.

I think TD differential is probably the best way to break ties.

Take two snails, paint the shells in team colours...race them.
....then eat them if you're French.

I'll get my coat...

If you're going to race snails you have to feed them Guiness first....

In the ECBBL we score 3 points for a league win and 1 point for a league draw.

Ties are broken by Net Touchdowns, then by Net Casualties.

If you're still tied after that you can go to total touchdowns, total casualties or just count the match record against the guy you've tied with.

If we get to that stage we usually just settle it Australian style: Jackets off 'round the back.

not really the topic subject, but in a league of 2 conference of 4 team playind against each other 2 times, do you think i should give 3pt for a win and 1 for tie or 2 pt a win and 1 a tie ?

i prefer 4pts victory and 2 pts victory cos i think that 3 draws are better than 1 vic and 2 loss...
Dont you think?

arf sorry, i wanted to say 5 pts for a vic and 2 for a draw.
Now, the explanation seems logical.
So what do you think of it?

hmm that s an option i haven t consider yet, will think of it.

it seems good to me, a win is better than 2 draw, 3 draw better than a win

Over the last ECBBL season (8 teams) the difference between 3-1-0 and 5-2-0 would have made no difference at all to the final league standings. There were only 11 draws in the 56 games played.

Overall I doubt it makes much difference to the way coaches approach their games - its not professional sport after all.
