Winning the toss in test cricket is such a huge advantage that there's inevitably an outcry if you win the toss and lose the game. Unless you're playing the dingo-shaggers, in which case you'll probably lose anyway.

cricket... ya know, i flip on my tv every once in a while and go to fox sports world to see if there's any soccer on and there's cricket... 10am - 7pm usually and i watch it for a while.... and to this day i've never figured out what the heck is going on... i mean, here's this game, it's kinda like baseball (which is in and of itself enough reason to change the channel), and the same guy's up to bat for, oh, i don't know, three hours, scores 120 runs (and sometimes even 120-37, whatever the hell that means) and all they do is talk about 'overs' and i'm thinking "over? this thing's never gonna be over!"

and they wear vests!

i mean, come on, cricket is just a big prank, right?

You're watching it all wrong.

The key to watching and understanding cricket is alcohol and lots of it. A large quantity of beer is a good start (note I said 'beer'. That means not Budweiser), although if you want to go for the authentic SCG experience inject vodka into oranges and freeze them overnight.

The point is by the time Australia has declared at 2-503 you should be maggoted enough so that you can appeal loudly at the television at every opportunity and sound as authentic as possible:

HOWAZAAAAAAAA!!!

You'll soon get the hang of it.

The funny thing about Guinness is that if you drink it on a full stomach it's really hard to get drunk. lol That is unless you have a pony-keg gut like me. 2.5 gallons...I'm guessing you won a belching contest too!

Coin toss- We do it NFL style. the home coach hold the coin ready to flip, asks the visiting coach to call it, then he flips. We use a quarter, though. We don't care for that squig/eagle thing. Too hard to flip.

Funny never trusted flipped coins.

I've always used dice. One coach throw a D6 and the other says odds or even. I've always trust dice more than money.

Strangely enough the 1st Edition of BB included a referee to flip, which was literally called "Live or Dead". (With the appropriate representation
of either.) Flipping a coin just seems so, well "Elf-y". Might as well have
the entire team dressed in tutu's while you're at it.

Of course if the opponent is willing to supply the Guinness during the match I am perfectly willing to accept whatever method they want, even a wimpy coin. Though I do prefer the drawing swords and going at it outside much more satisfying.

The 1st edition had no mini's, it was purely cardboard. (Those of you who've played their Talisman series know what I'm talking about.) So supplied with the players was a special referee character. This you flipped, and the picture that showed told you whether he was "Live or Dead". I kept up the tradition with my Halfling and Dwarf figures in the later traditions as suiting the original rules. Mind you they bounced a lot when they hit the pitch.

Don't worry, your not alone. I'm English through and through and i can't stand Test cricket.

Now, limited overs cricket, that's a different ball game (so to speak).
