Wardancer or Linos for bashed up woodies ?

Post by FischerKing »

Ok, so I have this Woodelf team preparing for their third season in the Arosbb. In season 1 they were building up, challenged by early ageing, and in season 2 they lost their 1/8-final to some darkelves. In season 3 they were approaching potential, and after a good winning streak in the group play, they were cried out as season favorites. Somebody wrote a post in our forum with the subject "Renegades must die !", I was laughing confident but.......after a series of 5 games that was just what had happenet :( In the end they sufferet a humiliating quater final defeat to the gobbos rolling virus, and niggling their best wardancer in the process.

I know the sensible thing would be to retire the team, but I wanna recover them. I sacked all my nigglers apart from 1, the str 4 wardancer, leaving me 9 players. I have 140 k for shopping. The first 4 players I wanna bye: Wardancer, 2 linos and a tree. Im torn about what to buy firsth though. What is peoples oppinion on that matter ? Here is my team, click Team Roster.

OK, a few things
1) retiring them is not sensible it's cowardly
2) Get 11+ players ASAP.

I would suggest starting with 2 extra linos, a 3rd RR, then an extra WD and a 3rd catcher. If you had more catchers, but with a N, I would have kept one for lightningrod duty in the mean time. Possibly the same for the 2nd WD.

I won't retire it.
It is a very good team with two lineelves with guard and I don't have to mention the St4 WD.

So I would buy three lineelves next. After that I would go for the 2nd WD and a catcher.

I'd certainly retire them.

I have little experience in recovering a WE team.

But I'd probably take the Tree next as he's far less likely to get injured than a line elf. By protecting a line elf from getting mangled on the LOS you ought to slightly reduce the number of casualties you take allowing the team to rebuild quicker in the long run.

Personally, I'd go straight for the WD - two of them will allow you to get matches under control again, turning you from a victim to a scorer, and which will change your opponents' focus from simpling mangling you players to actually trying to protect the ball, which will help your team's survival...

Go for the wardancer first - with his help try to minimise casualties (blitz oppos away from your players so they cannot hit next turn). Go for a damage avoidance strategy, don´t push to win games, as that usually endangers your players. Off course, if a TD opportunity arises, use it - just don´t push your luck by doing so.

After all you want to recover your team, which means sacrificing victories for a couple of games. Get the tree next to soak up damage from the LOS.

Only after that build up your numbers in line men.

Thanks for all the sensible suggestions, many good points and Im still considering.

Reaching 11 players is like a mantra, and shure would be nice ! A tree absorbs damage aplenty, and the new rules assures that hes there.
I am a victim yes, good point, and if the Renegades is put in an upper bracket group (with all the nasty teams: clawkillers, the norse, the f****** chaos dwarves, the orcs and the fouling gobbos), eaven more so. Im torn on that question, because, being a treat could have the opposite effekt as well; winner teams attracts fouls as shit do flies.

Your right skummy, I should retire them, but as Duke said; I would leave the field of bravery and glory ^^

We have a woodie team in our league right now. The Mighty Ojibwa.

they reached their glory about a year ago in our chaos cup 4 way game. the other 3 players realized they had to take him out...reduced his team to rubble. He went from a 200 tr team to a 7 man 108tr team. He has since rebuilt his team and won the following seasons Chaos Cup and is now in the Bloodwieser Championship game and back at 223tr.

the team has played 50+ games but they have been rebuilt.

so there is hope :)

In the end I took 2 linemen, saving 20 k for a wardancer (next)...I can only hope, that I dont have to face the worst bashers in the start of this season, that might retire them.

Thank you all for your advice..

you said you had 140k ? Two line elves cost 70 and 70 ? Where did 20k come from ?

I'm obviously late to the advice party, but I don't buy line-elves when down on WarDancers. So I would have bought the Dancer and saved 20k.

And remember with Wood Elves the Mantra is.

"There is a score here somewhere, I just need to find it."

Even on defense. :D

Of course repeated scoring (and subsequent LOS restocking) is better handled by a team with Trees in play I hear.

Cheers.

My mistake, I had 160 k :)

They have now played 2 games, won them both, and got the money for the wardancer. With the 2 winns they are heading for the play-offs. First game was not bad, against skavens that made 2 cas. saved a niggling. Next game vs chaos dwarfs, they recieve, first block = kill = no apoth for the rest of the game. I take the ball away from them and score 2 times, and the chaos dwarves decides they cant winn and gonna have fun with fouls instead. Result: 2 more kills 1 bh 1 mng. On top of that my catcher aged on hes second skill roll (dunno whats up with this team, they all age).

So....now I have 10 players, 2 nigglings, 1 MNG and 0 cash :/
Save for a tree ? Save for replacement linos ? Restart the roster (in a group with developed teams, If im gonna do that Im gonna do it now, since I play against non-bashy orcs next game. I can probably get away with 1 hard injury and buy an apoth).

I would have taken the tree.
It is one less elf on the LOS, and it will make it a lot less appealing to take a swing at the remaining 2.
A treeman is a life saver.

Oh well
Good luck with it

That's what I thought when I bought one. Next game turn 2, he got killed and no way the APO worked!
So far for theory in a dice based game!

After that I first bought 2 lino's. Now at least I can field some players again.

If you buy a WD, the opponent focusses on the WD who is most likely to get of the pitch very soon. and then you can start all over again.

@ fisherking. I think you took the right decision. :D

I might go for a tree myself if I were you, unless you consider yourself a "good" WE coach (by opposition to a generally good coach, without particular abilities for WE), in which case you should be able to keep your players away from trouble most of the time, meaning then that another lineman is better as part of an overall "fast and mobile" strategy.
Up to you.
