Woodies at BB 2005 (My first Post)
Well I'm off to BB 2005 with my Wood Elves.
Having just found this forum I'm not up on current BB discussions as to what works, and what sucks. I normally do quite well with Wood Elves but have not played in a BB tournament before.
I would request advice / suggestions on the list below for use in the Games Workshops 2005 Blood Bowl tournament. Also please advise on the order / type of skills.
Treeman (will get block after game 1)
Wardancer (will get strip ball after game 2)
2 Catchers (1 will get sure feet after game 5)
2 Throwers (1 will get sure hands after game 3)
5 Lineman (1 will get kick after game 4)
1 re-roll
FF 1
My main worry is FF1 but I figure that in a tournament situation (ie no gate) there are only a few instances were FF would help (pitch invasion/get the ref) and they are quite rare.
Thanks in advance
Dave

I think all big guys (including the treeman) had general access skills removed in the RR04 (check www.bloodbowl.com) so you wont be able to give him block. and because of this I would probably drop him from your roster
if you search the forums you should be able to find a few examples of tournament TR100 rosters.
I would get some more block and strip ball as skills, but I've never played WE so I'm not sure if that is the best skill choice

But at least take root isn't as bad as it was. Do you really think he's 'that' bad without block that I should drop him? I find him 'very' helpful as I get something that can hold its own on the Line of Scrimmage.
I expect a few, however all my players will be better for the next game, so it should be OK.But you should prepare yourself for a lot of Cas. your team will suffer.
I was thinking about a couple of block lineman to go on the Line of scrimmage. But a WE place is really 1 square further away so wouldn't dodge be better?I would get some more block and strip ball as skills
Thanks for the responses. Any thoughts on the FF, will 1 be enough?

I would go with Block, rather than Dodge. I took Dodge with my Dark Elves last year and they suffered against teams with Tackle. Dwarves, Chaos Dwarves and any bashy team by the end of the tournament.
As you already have a dodge player I would take block and hope the 2+ roll works when dodging out of tacklezones
edit: oh and you WILL have games where you are down to as few as 3 or 4 players, but remember even woodelf linemen can score in 2 turns with a bit of luck.

IMO the best TR100 WE roster is
2 War Dancers
1 Catcher
8 Line Elves
2 RR
1 FF(?) might be 2FF.
Having 2 War Dancers makes you far less vulnerable to an unfortunate accident involving someone's boot - and Blodge is a great combo.
I'd give Strip Ball to one, Kick to a line elf, Tackle to the other WD, Block to the catcher and Block, Dodge or Dirty Player to a line elf.

FF wont help you in Get the Ref anymore either, as both teams benefit from the result in RR2004. So pitch invasion and Cheering Fans are the only kickoff results where FF would help you. Espeicially not having to worry about earning winnings, I dont think low FF should be a problem for you.

Ditto the team Ian said (exactly what I would suggest)
Need 2 WDs as they're your best players (best non star players in the game by far IMO)
You will get mullered in a big way with AV7, 11 players and no apothecary. So your priority has to be to leave no blocks at all for your opponent - just allow him his blitz each turn (will need to be very disciplined about this).
First skill would have to be Strip Ball on a WD - using him as the obvious ball extracter. Then I would concentrate on protecting your catcher with Block and your linos with dodge.
Don't worry about FF so much as it has less of an impact since the rules review (GTR is both teams, Pitch invasion not as devastating if you lose etc.)

Well, there is still "Throw a Rock" where FF is used as well. That one can still kill 1 player if luck is against you.Ravage wrote:So pitch invasion and Cheering Fans are the only kickoff results where FF would help you.

With good luck elves are unstopable. I played some wood elves and my necromantic got heavily out cas'ed and heavily outscored, it was scary
The only advice I can give is to not run away too much, sometimes dodging out makes it pretty easy to score against. Whenever given a decent oppertuniy to block with assists, do it. This can help to distrupt your opposition's plans and you may occasionally get a cas or KO, which for elves is a huge bonus.
Being a bashy player my biggest fear when playing against wood elves is the wardancers. I'll try to whack them with a player with tackle and then foul. Catchers likewise if they have block. The block and dodge combo is the bane of bashy teams so I'm hoping I dont run into an amazon team early.

I went to BB42 with the same rosters as Ian said.
And i did quite good result (3 draws, 1 loss, 2 wins) but was unlucky have to mention.
2 rr is too less to help.
I remember Marcus went with this roster also and finished about 10 of the tourny.

I agree with Ian's roster too, although you could also consider getting a thrower instead of a catcher.
Two WDs is simply indispensable - it's gonna be too easy for your opponent to target your only WD, and then you've lost the game...
Furthermore, two WDs will decrease the need for you to have a third reroll since you'll rely heavily on their block and dodge skills.
Good luck!
