what the heck is up with that title that appears over my avatar, whats it all about and how does it change, is it a record of how long i have been here or something else?

Do a search Rookie.

Seriously, it's just a label base on your number of posts. They change just as if you were rolling skills expcet the number required is times 10 so you'll loose the Rookie title and become Experienced at 60 posts, Veteran at 160....
