One downside to the dump-off tactic lies in player attrition. In fact you deliverately expose a player, who has no block/dodge to keep him on his feet an has only AV7 (in case of pro-elf) to blitzes. I have tried playing this tactic on a couple of occasions and ended up with my dump-offers dead or niggled pretty quickly.
So it is a viable alternative to going for the 2 or 3 turn TD, but only when you need to let the clock run out for tactical reasons.

I like to give my throwers block. Why not blitz with a surehanded/pass able guy or have him dodge in and pick up/pass without risk death as much?
They are much more versatile with block and also you don't have to fear them going down as often and they don't carry the same target icon hovering above their heads that says 'hit me I go down easy and have a ton of skills that are of waste to my coach if I do'.

A for using throwers agressively: I don't like to play the long bomb style of elfbowl. I find that if anything goes wrong (always that chance of 1's or intercepts) you get scored on because you are out of position. In addition to that the classic accurate/sure hands/ safe throw guy is a sitting duck for the opponents blitzers. These guys DIE!
I like to give my elven throwers blodge, so they can also be of some use on defense. IMO an AG4 guy with pass who only makes quick or short passes doesn't need all the other passing skills.

i think it'd be pretty cool to play a dump off/NOS team.
I don't think you'd take more cas than any other elf team because you'll still try and limit the the number of blocks the opponent gets.
Also you'd get more spp's because you'd be throwing the ball on opponents turn

I agree...I don't think that you should go out of your way to expose the DO Thrower to the hit. (Therefore he is no more suceptable to injury than anyone else.)
However, once you have these skills in place, the team can be played similarly as any other team of the same race with a few extra tricks up their sleeve.
I am actually toying with this plan for my Orc team...two throwers with the DO and a developed blitzer as the target for the do. If you can get this...NOS, Guard, and diving catch would be nice.

I've once commited an high elf team to playing with dump off, so i gave the players dump off and nerves of steel on doubles(luckly for me i roll a lot of them). once the team got the ball in its hands it was almost impossibke to get it from them.

It's actualy a AG4 thrower and NOS catcher, but the other 2 catchers also have NOS and I've a few other scoring options as well. It'll be amusing when this team play Alesdair's Proelves who have a dumpy catcher (and thrower?).Alesdair wrote:I've seen a pair of NoS DumpOff Human catchers in a team before... running up the field 2 squares apart (so one player couldn't TZ both of them).
I was impressed, but frustrated.
Should be lots of airtime for the ball!
