Astrogranite pitch

Post by Darkson »

(Probably not the correct from but...)

I'm after a little help.

I want to "blackline" the squares on my grey pitch, and paint/colour the central symbol.

I know others have done this, and I'm hoping someone can give me some hints, for example, what's the best paint to use, wheter to paint or ink.

Remember, I'm crap at painting anyway, so the simpler the better.

Liquid black ink for the old-fashioned kind of pens works well too. Dirt cheap and can be further diluted without affecting colour quality. Try to "suck it up" into a narrow drinking straw (dip it into the ink, press your finger on the top and withdraw to keep ink in the straw with suction effect); the pointy part of the drinking straw can then be used to "trace" the ink into the lines between the squares. Keep a paper towel handy to blot - don't wipe - any excess off immediately. Speedy and cheap.

while you're at that darkson, can you do me a favour. do you remember the skaven team you took to the blood bowl a couple of years ago, (the ones with the german wwII helmets) that i think were your mates? although they may have been yours, it's been a long time. any chance you can get a picture of them so that i can have a look at trying to steal the idea from you. i really like the idea of that i want to see how they were done before i have a go.

For the squares I just spray painted the board black and dry brushed the surface. I went from a very dark gray to bleached bone. Then in a fjust a few random spots between the squares I glued some flock.

I didn't paint the center skull though.

I tested it on the bottom and used Rustoleum.

Surprisingly it didn't melt.

Certain types of spray paint won't melt polystyrene. I seem to remember something about cellulose based paints being okay but can't remember the details. Have a look at some wargames terrain websites - it'll be there somewhere.

D.R.I.
You know why!

Are you talking about craft paint...usually near the fabric section in department stores?

That's what I use. @$.50 for 2 oz. compared to GW's $2 for 1 oz. is a no brainer.
