Looking for Chaos suggestions

Post by Chairface »

Hey guys

A few weeks ago I went to a miniatures show and picked up A Gwar, Rumble in Antartica figure of Balzak the Jaws of Death. Its going to make a kick ass beastman and I've been inspired to paint up a chaos team. I want it to be unique as possible.

So for Chaos Warriors I was thinking about the new barbarian figs from heresy.

http://www.heresyminiatures.com/football.htm

Barbarian one and two, and the new Boris come to mind. I love the figs and planned on ordering them anyways, but I wasn't sure what to do with them. I have a Human and Norse team already, and wasn't all that enthused about making another. Do you think these guys would make suitable Chaos warriors?

On to beastmen. I was tempted to go with the new plastics, but they don't really go with the Gwar fig that inspired the team in the first place. I'm planning on getting the Feral Priestess for one of the figs. I was also thinking of the Reaper " Majestic Bull" that we have seen the green of so far. Are there any other suggestions for unique figs that would make good Beastmen? Thanks!

I like the vast majority of Heresy stuff, but, in my non-pro opinion, barbarian 2 is pretty poor. Not saying I could do any better, it's just not up to Andy's normal excellent efforts. Again, imo only.

Ok, its not my favourite either, but I'd like to see a painted version on the site. I think I can work with it, and its it the same scale as the others.....

Can you elaborate further as to why not? I was trying to make a just-bought slave, after all...what is is that turns you off about it? e.g. lack of armour, the pose, etc?

Well Let me comment for a second then. I LOVE Deathball Boris. I LOVE the NEW Mullet. I like the barbarian number 2. Maybe he needs shoulder pads.... I dunno. He has a slightly goofy pose, but theres nothing wrong with that. When I get mine I'll probably give him a new hairstyle with some green stuff. Maybe its because he looks slightly out of place with the other two.... I still like the fig and he will be in my next order. I have a rule though, I have to finish off the figs from the last order first before I make a new one. Good news though. The Ogres are almost done!

For Andy:

I've placed a few orders in the past, love so much of what you've done. But personally, I had to wonder if you were trying to rush too much stuff through a few months ago.

The new Minotaur is fantastic. Nice design, fantastic action. The ref Boris is fine work (though I personally have no use for another ref mini). But I'm not sure I'll ever order the Deathball Mullet or Marr the Mighty. Mullet's okay, but the pose isn't dynamic, and I'm not crazy about the scale. Marr... well, nice enough sculpt, but it doesn't look like a fantasy football player to me. Too happy, no action, and all that skin just bores the painter in me. He looks like a bodybuilder, not a football player. Perhaps Marr 2.0 will inspire me to part with my cash.

All the other Deathball stuff that came before (and many of the fantasy models in your range) just seemed to be more dynamic and detailed than Mullet or Marr.

Anyway, just my two cents. I like your work enough to comment on it. And I should say that your Deathball Ogres and Manbane have become showpieces in my Orc and Chaos Blood Bowl teams. So please understand that I love your work. I just wasn't blown away by your January releases.
