New player here. Looking for amazon tips.
Hi, I'm new to these forums and I'm also quite new to this good game. I have a team of amazons, and I'd like to get a few tips on them. The big problem is after a few games when all opponents are full of tackles and mighty blows and claws, and amazons are really fragile. They also seem a bit slow. I need some tips on keeping TR low, though I dislike the usual methods of dumping money or buying and selling things. I'm sorta looking for not only legal, but also lawful ways to keep low, hehehe.
I'd also like to know how to do for specific things I have seen done, but when I ask all I get is "practice and it will come". For example, the one-turn-touchdown-via-secondary-pushbacks play, people say it can't be done with amazons, but I still want to learn how to do that. Also some people can seem to mount a network of tackle zones that can't be crossed without plenty of, usually 4+, dodges, and when I try something similar, somehow it doesn't work. The cage play I know, but I always seem to have too few players available. I don't know how to advance the cage efficiently when it's formed, either.
Also, I always seem a bit to a loss when deciding how to setup. People only talks about formations without being specific, and I don't know how to place my differently skilled players. For example, how to place the Guard players efficiently, or where to put the players that got extra AG, or MA, for example. All sort of things about initial setups, or how can I react to opponent's setup, would be nice too.
Well, I think that's all for now (not that it's little, I know). I had a more organized post yesterday, but it refused to post it, and this one is a quite rushed repeat, so I may have forgotten something.

I'm really not trying to be a jerk here, but the answer to 75% of those questions is "play more Blood Bowl." As a new player last fall, I got used to more senior players saying "you'll get a feel for it." And it's true.
There are just too many options, skills, and possiblities for somebody to give you a concrete guide on things like how to use players with Guard or what positions on the field are best. Your "standard" defensive set-up against Khemri suddenly changes entirely when two of them have +MV, or whatnot. It's far more time-efficient to just play a bunch of games and get a feel for it.
If you play on FUMBBL, use the IRC channel Fumbbl_Academy. It's full of good senior coaches who love to help new players, and having somebody tell you how they're kicking your butt while they do it is far better than just reading a bunch of stuff and trying to retain it all during a match.
It's more like learning to drive a car than learning to play checkers. It's a system of interrelated rules which, when you understand them, will help you respond to any set of circumstances. Some circumstances are disastrous, and learning basic skills will help you cope with them better. But the game's too big and too varied to have a concise "strategy guide" other than some very general rules that become self-evident when you... play more Blood Bowl.

Probably not what you where looking for when it comes to advice... but don't play Amazones as a new-to-the-game coach.
They are a decent short term team, but AV 7 and opposing Tacklers equals dead amazones... they have no real strenght and can't really throw the ball. My advice is to start a brand new Orc team... they can do a little of everything, and AV 9 is forgiving for new coaches.
If you insist on Amazones, try to replace any players with injuries... if you manage that I'm impressed. If you manage it and still want to keep you TR down, try to replace any positionplayer that hasn't rolled a double within his first two rolls, that should keep your TR down and improve your team.
Edit: Also listen to MattSheperd.

To awnser your TR question. The easiest way to keep your TR low is to buy more Re-rolls. Since RR price is double after team creation but only counts as normal price for TR purposes this si a good way to loose some cash. Having never played as an amazon team I am afriad I have very little other advice then whats already been givin. Make sure and get "block" as soon as possible on most of your players, other then that just play, you'll come up with your own ideas and strategies. (it's more fun that way too!)

It is just a case of learning as you go, as has already been said. Play more games of BB, but also play against experienced, responsible coaches, and watch what they do. You might even like to ask questions along the way...

Don't worry too much about keeping your TR down. That's not massively important anyway. One turn scores with push backs is impossible with 'zons. Its also a pretty advanced tactic too. Concentrate on getting the basics right.
Now first of all the secret with 'zons (and many teams) is not to dodge often. What dodge does is keep your players on their feet and allows you to effectively stop opposition drives because they can't break through your lines. Really 'zons are a blocking team - so hit, hit & hit.
Blitzers should take Guard first, followed up by mighty blow. Stand Firm on doubles.
Linewomen - at least one wants dirty player, another needs kick. The rest should get block & tackle. Doubles go on guard or dauntless.
Catchers can either be developed to defend (block, sidestep, diving tackle, pass block) or score (block, sure feet, sprint). Doubles is either guard or nerves of steel IMO. Dump Off can be handy too.
Throwers want to develop one as a runner - sure hands & block are good choices. The other as a a passer strong arm, accurate, etc.
The real problem with 'zons is the 3 bogey teams -Dwarves, Chaos Dwarves & Norse. In general against them (or other tackle/block heavy teams) aim for survival and hope for a draw or a sneaky win. If you let them hit you too much early on you are toast - and possibly for the next game too.

I'm playing amazons in a league that just started. So far I've had plenty of success.
I bought Zara the Slayer from the Living Rulebook. She's been effective
I beat the Norse 2-0. dodge was better than block at least in that game.
I just tied a human team 1-1, and only because of last play heroics by Griff. I did manage to kill a blitzer on a cheap shot roll.
The first week my opponent dropped a Bankruptcy card on my.
In week two a won 50k and bought a linewoman since I have one that will miss week three.
