CD vs Dwarves
Hi, tonight my Chaos Dwarves have to face the evil Dwarves,it's the second league game. my team:
2 bc
3 cd
6 hobbo
3 rr
8 ff
apo
the opponent:
2 blitzer
2 troll slayers
2 runners
5 longbeards
2 rr
5 ff
apo
none of the players collected enouhg star player points to get a skill.
I found a lot of advice how to play on offense, but I still don't have a clue how to defend against the darven cage. dodging 1 square away is definitly not an option, but trying to bash 'em up might also be desastrous.
any good ideas how i should play?

hey phipstar,
you are gonna have to try and protect you hobbo's as you are gonna have to field them all, and more than likely you are gonna get them in contact with players with block so you may struggle.
your bc's are gonna be they key as they are st4 and apart from the salyers he has no access to st4, and they can simply outrun most of the players on his team with ease.
i know it is too late now but i think you should of started with more of the cd's to get them skilled with guard and which in turn helps protect your gobbo's and the rest of team. but that is just my opinion, but like i said if you use your bc's right you should win. although this will be tough as most of his players have block and yours dont. but good luck and let us know how you get on.

For defense IF he doesn't cage up. Use your Bull Centuars as blitzers. Send both flanking and threaten him with them. If his runners hold onto the ball, great, because they don't have block, so worst case scenario, you can still pop the ball free on a Skull-POW. If he gets it to his blitzers, then you'll need a clean knockdown, but with a ST 4 you won't need the positioning to get the 2 die block. If he isn't caging, its all about quick pressure. I (a dwarf coach) hate feeling pressured, and (effective) MV 9 STR 4 players can really put the pressure on. Don't fret as much as your 3 CDs take on his entire team, they're tough enough. Keep the Hobgoblins loose and pressure the ball carrier quickly and consistently.
Now, if he cages, things get significantly ickier for you. You can't attempt to stall his advance, you lack the block players or many high ST models. So, IMO, you will need to play a more human/elf approach. Place your models on square off his cage, allowing him just the one blitz a turn and limited advancement down the field. You have more MV then him, so you can afford to over compensate if you need to. Then, lacking the leaping Wardancer you have to strike all at once. Blitz a corner of the cage, and then swarm the ball carrier with tacklezones. Hope that you can make it so he can't push his way free, and will have to dodge. Just keep your BCs away from his TS and try to get his frenzy to put him in a bad way.
Good luck!

I've found a 'refused flank' is great on the beardy ones
Look at this, you put all your cds one the line, making all off the moves in your first turn to the left, putting all prone players to the left. Just keeping som hobgobs to the right
Pick up the ball with your bc and tend to form a cage beneath your cd.
Then suddenly, move both your bc to the right, screening them off with the hobgobs, you surely will have a td in turn 3.

nice idea, i'll try this sometime.
But with the advice from above i also did well. I won 1:0 !
In the first half the dwarves chose to receive the ball, off course they formed their f*****g cage (how i dislike it...). I tried to slow them down by staying 1 step away from them, and when they moved near my players i retailiated with the bulls and the blockers while the hobbos gave assists. Till turn 5 I managed to force my opponents cage to my left side, then blitzed it with my bull and attacked with all my other forces, except the other bull, who waited three squares behind. i pushed one of his blitzers off pitch, his front row was knocked down, he got panicked.
So he made a hand of to his second blitzer and headed for the right, slowly followed by one longbeard.
My second bull blitzed him while some hobbos swarmed him. both of us couldn`t get a hold of the ball till the end of half one.
Second half, me received. little bashing at the los, in turn four bull one made his touchdown, I sent him down the field, guarded by the other bull.
i the time left the dwarves couldn`t even the score, their final pass missed it`s destination, finally victory!!
it was to my great benefit that my opponent had his troll slayers in front of his cage, most of the time they were lying on the ground and didn`t disturb my bulls.

until next time you meet the dwarf, try to save 50k for a fireball wizard, its real nice on the cages.
imagine that all players in 9 squares have to dodge without +1. Those of then that dont success get hit by a mighty blow hit
But you did it well, the bulls are the key to outrun the slow teams (dwarfs orks etc)
in a tournament this weekend i did 13 goals. My 2 bulls did 11 of them
