New human team with new background

Post by Highlander »

I wasn't quite sure where to post this, so the worst case is I'll chalk this up to being a newbie on the board and plead ignorance and the moderators can move it to it's appropriate place if need be.

So I'm thinking of starting up a new human team so I wanted some feedback on the name and background on the team. I'm thinking of calling them the Hochland Highwaymen. For the background I'm thinking that this group of thieves rob another Blood Bowl team on the way to a match. The group of thieves are so impressed with the amount of money that can be made they decide to take up the game using the stolen money and equipment. I've got some current metal humans which I'll use for now, but when the new figs come out I'm thinking of doing some minor coversions like head swaps and such in order to model figures with bandana's over their faces.

I haven't really decided on a starting roster, but I at least will have one thrower to be the captain and give him the nickname "Long Rifle".

So I just wanted to what people thought of the team name or background. Or worst case if someone else has had this same idea. I wouldn't want to steal someone elses hard work. Thanks.

Hardly stealing as there are only so many compelling stories. I like it.

Perhaps you could do some research on historical bandits in real life.

Just a thought. The background is very neat

Thanks for the links.

John "Swift Nick" Nevison would be a great name for a catcher. Though I'll probably Germanise it to Johann to keep the empire theme.

Richard "Dauntless Dick" Turpin would also be a good name, but I'd have to make sure I got the Dauntless skill or else it would just seem out of place.

Name them as they do!

I find the most characterful way of naming a team is to start with no names them name them as things happen! like if a lineman pulls off an impressive series of dodges or floors an orge they get a name that will remind you of the game and the amusement!

Also strangle enough I find that once they have a name and a character they seem to play like it! I had thrower that once killed an oppenents blitzer dispite enemy assit after he'd made the taughting remark of oh a thrower how scary! And sin the following run of that team the thrower just ran round the back killing all sorts of ball carrying nasties!

My team would be full of : Bob "Dodged and Broke His Neck" Culmsy, Joe "Butterfingers" Jillepsy, and Randy "Crowd Meat" Ribbons

But what happens if you play in a league where stats are kept of each player, and names are needed from the opening kick-off?

I've noticed that too! That's one of the more fun aspects of the game IMHO. Mind you, I also find that tendency reflected in players who are "thrown to the wolves" due to injury or other mishap. I have a player on my current human team who lost a point of ST to a broken collarbone; I nicknamed him "Suicide Boy" and sent him up against the meanest, fiercest opponents. Nobody since has been able to hurt him worse than Badly Hurt! And since he got Dauntless...

Its one of my pet peeves with FUMBB. I have zero problem naming players up front, but when that lineman kills a Minotaur I want to give him an appropriate name and can't. I know it would just allow the morons to call all their players whatever obscene/offensive names they wanted so it won't happen - but it bugs me.

Since every Player has a number, its fairly easy to identify a player without fault, even if teh player has no proper Name yet.

Yeah, but that's SO unoriginal...plus, since I run a tabletop league, the others like to see who's leading in which categories (Casualties, Completions, TDs, etc). Besides, I'm not fond of the idea of changing a player's name completely once the season's started, just because he did something important...adding to a name is fine, but a wholesale change...why not just start with a name and go from there?

I can also modify the positions in our leagues online team roster .. so a halfling with 15+ SPP's might become pizza deleverer etc ...

nice idea about the highwaymen btw ...

Name them once and when they develop give them an extra name:

Johann Johnson the catcher = Johann "Flashy-Feet" Johnson!!

Isn't that that goblin's head that Hubris is holding?

That's the way the game is played Jim
