Highelf against Skaven

Post by habasta »

I never played before against Skaven.
He has 3 Gutterrunners, 2 Storm Vermin, 1 Rat Ogre, a thrower and Linerats.
I have 2 Dragonwarriors ( one with ST4 ), Lionwarrior with block and dodge, thrower witc accurate and lineelves.
What to do?
Take Thrud to block out the Rat Ogre and foul in the first half with Thrud?
The Rat ogre is much better than the treeman of the Woodelves.
Block out the Gutterrunners?

Get his gutter runners and stay away from the ratogre. With the lr.4 rules the ratogre is only useful when next to a player. Otherwise he's bound to loose his blitz action once in a while, which is good for you!

Tie the storm vermin with (relatively) expendable lineelfs, and use your players with block (str4 needs only 1 assist for a 3die block on a gr) to try and remove them from play. Even a knocked out result is ok!

He has a rookie team?

Good luck!

Since he has only three GRs, I'll assume it's a pretty rookie team, so his Storm Vermins shouldn't be much of a problem, they probably only have block and another skill. Just aim for his gutter runners, get every chance you have to get them out of the field. Your AV advantage is what should make the difference, always stick to him, anyway you're more agile than him so you'll be able to get your elves out of bad situations better than he will. Once his GRs are out of the field, just aim his players that annoys you the most, but you can mainly focus on scoring toutchdowns.

Oh, also, stay away of his rat ogre, and on your defence positioning, try to take a "winged" position, lot of guys on the line of scrimmage, with two guys on both sidezones, the last one two squares from the sidelines, but five squares away from the LoS, so if his Rat Ogre want to blitz you out of the field, he'll have to stay next to the sideline (so you can push him too) or have to make go for it (which he will eventually fail and cannot use rerolls).

My main opponent plays Skaven. I play against them every week and they are a frustrating team to play against. One mistake and the gutter runners are all over you.

Goal #1

Take out the gutter runners. Not so easy as he has three. If you don't have tackle (which I don't think you do), then use the blitzer high elves (I can't remember thier fancy names) to hunt them down. Try to get three dice blocks, no to hard with the 4 ST guy.

Goal #2

Take out the rat Ogre. This becomes goal #1 if the rat ogre has claws or fangs. Foul him hard once he goes down (if possible).

After that it isn't too hard!!!

One other thing, be cautious with the ball. I can't stress this enough. An agressive Skaven coach will capitialize on any mistake. I use to go for the 1 SPP each catch in the back field with my dark elves, screwed it up, an I was down 1-0 just like that!!

edit

I see the previous posters said to avoid the RO. Thats a good stategy too, but I have developed a special hatred for them and the injury of a rat ogre is a win for me!!

I play skaven.

1.) Stay away from the RO, but be aware of his prehensile tail.

2.) Hunt his gutterrunner (3-dice-blocks), but also hit his linerats. If you have the numerous advantage it's hard for his gutterrunners and even for the stormrats (difficulties in getting 2-dice-blocks).

3.) Foul the gutterrunners and the RO when they are down.

4.) Don't play the speed, game! Time is working for you. Armour 8!

5.) Be aware of the enormous moveability of the whole skaven team! The is hardly a safe place for your ballcarrier.

Good luck.

Agreed - Kill maim and destroy the GR's Foul if necessary - they are everywhere at once and one mistake and they are scooring a 1 turn TD!!

Mighty little mices - don't let RO distract you (that is what hes there for) you can spend a lot of resource bringing him down and other mice run rings around you! 8)

AG 4 means that you can reposition for 2 dice blocks all over. Rats break easily.
