Gobbo Tactica
Having coached a few teams so far I am thinking of something a little different and I guess they don't come much more different than the little grots!
The only problem I have is finding a decent set of tactics/plays to get me started. I can see there are some good running plays to be had what with the Dodge and stunty going on but beyond that I am not too sure.
Also defence:- I really dont see how you defend with these guys without losing players like they're going out of fashon.
Basically, I like the idea but the execution could be tricky! Maybe i should play Flings instead Hmmmm.....

Re: Gobbo Tactica
Defending with Gobbos is a nightmare ... it is this that puts them below most other teams, as they have reasonable offensive options. The problem is that on defence you have no chance of turning over the ball and scoring yourself, as blitzing the ball carrier is not gonna happen even if he is in the open. So a Gobbo team is forced into trying to just delay the TD, possibly for up to 8 turns. As you say, this is going to cost bodies, and is not reliable since you will fail dodge rolls on 3+ with a reroll.jimmy944 wrote:Also defence:- I really dont see how you defend with these guys without losing players like they're going out of fashon.
Once you have a few skills, Side Step and Diving Tackle make a real difference on defence.
The best tactic with Goblins is to accept that you will concede TDs, and have fun trying to get a draw!

Read through this halfling playbook by Galak. It's not about goblins all the way, but much of it is applicable.

maybe if you are hitting a blogder....otherwise....attack the ball every turn.Nazgit wrote: Defending with Gobbos is a nightmare ... it is this that puts them below most other teams, as they have reasonable offensive options. Against unskilled ball carriers (i.e. without block or dodge) its worth risking a 1/2 dice block on your opponent too.
Normally I'll rely on my opponent messing up and dropping the ball somewhere (anywhere) then by hook or by crook you get gobbos (ideally sidesteppers) around the ball and then pick it up and run with another gobbo.
If they don't mess up and cage up and drive down the field slowly then play like an elf. Just keep stepping back and wait for a mistake, throwing the odd 1/2 die block for fun. Use your trolls to stop the cage in its tracks and sidestep/diving tackle gobbos to tie peope up.
Also freebooting Nobbla in a lot of games will help a lot. People (rightly) fear him and he can cause a lot of carnage - and he'll attract a lot of blitzes too.

Get a strip ball gobbo on a double. With stunty he can get to most ball carriers and terrorise opponents with no sure hands. You can also throw him deep to blitz any elfy throwers lurking with the ball deep in their half. Dodging players through to swarm the ball carrier too is good, especially if a few of them have side step. And get break tackle on one troll, at least then you have a chance of knocking a ball carrier down.

And don't forget the often useless, but sometimes brilliant Bomber Dribblesnot. Not only very useful against AG-challenged teams (dwarves, lizards, khemri, etc) but very sneaky against bonehead/stupid players (awww, you mean you can't even _try_ to catch it? What a shame).ianwilliams wrote:Also freebooting Nobbla in a lot of games will help a lot. People (rightly) fear him and he can cause a lot of carnage - and he'll attract a lot of blitzes too.
And not forgetting.. he has accurate, and noone is stopping you from picking up a ball and passing it.

I think the bomber is good against low AG teams. He won't cause any damage, but he has the potential to knock a hole in the cage without even blitzing leaving the ball carrier open. there's also less chance of them catching it.And don't forget the often useless, but sometimes brilliant Bomber Dribblesnot. don't forget the fanatic. I just played a gainst a gobbo team on fumbbl, and the fanatic broke any line of defence, destroyed my LOS and prevented any protection of the ball carrier. Of course he's just as likely to cause you turnovers, but if you're playing as goblins you got to take risks anyway.

I think his worst trait is the fact that he will keel over and die pretty fast. Which is not a big prob if you had enough free slots on yourt roster anyway, but if you can only freeboot one guy Nobbla and Bomber are the prime contenders (Or Morg obviously, if you have the cash to burn).stormmaster1 wrote:don't forget the fanatic. That said, I think we have all been Fungus'ed at one time or another. I remember him knocking over 2 Flesh Golems and two zombies to singlehandedly clear _all_ my tacklezones on the ball, after which the goblins beat me. For shame, but good fun.

Bomber also isn't stunty.....Gorbad wrote:And not forgetting.. he has accurate, and noone is stopping you from picking up a ball and passing it.ianwilliams wrote:Also freebooting Nobbla in a lot of games will help a lot. Played my first game with a goblin team this week, and after a 0-2 loss came here looking for advice. I do not mind the loss, but I found I had no idea on how to really score with the little guys.
Found Galak’s Halfling Playbook and will be poring over it tonight.
One question. During my game I would have loved for my goblins to have strip ball, even more than block. I know with 2-3 strip ball players I could have pop-ed the ball out and done something.
But scanning the various threads and Galak’s article few people seam excited by strip ball. So, have people tried it and found it lacking on goblin/halfling players?
Thanks
