Where exactly does it say that your supposed to roll 2D6 for this. Since I know for a fact that if you read the LRB4 it says under the kick off area that the only time you roll a D6 for distance on a scatter is kickoff. And then when you read the area on throw ins it says nothing about rolling 2D6 for distance.
It's at the begining of the rulebook, very early on. Also, the throw in isn't a scatter..it's a throw in :) so the mention on the Kick-off table doesn't really apply.

It's all about how you place the throw in template (explained with pictures) which makes it quite clear where you start counting.
actually, the rulebook SAYS "counting from the square" hence my comment above

and the picture helps illustrate it, but honestly we never paid attention to the values of the dice in the picture and simply took the pic to be an example of how to lay the template on the sideline. which also helped our confusion since the picture of the ball is on the square in-bounds next to the sideline, so we thought you put the ball there and THEN started counting. 8)
