Myself and a few friends are starting up our own league. None of us play competatively and its most likely going to be a casual afair. The last time I played any GW games was when I was at college about 10 years ago and so don't intend to spend a huge amount of time or money on the league.

We have decided to not freeboot star players but to buy them as perment members of the team for several reasons.

Firstly nobody wants to buy a star player model, spend a week painting it, only to get to use it a few times a season. Secondly FB cost seem to me far too cheap as you can supercharge your team for very little. Lastly there is somthing nice about having a star player as a permanant resident in you line up.

The only problem is star player purchase cost for LRB4 are ridicously expensive to the point they are totally unaffordable.

What costs do people advise we use for permant Star Players? We was considering double the LRB4 freebooter cost.

As for teams becoming just a list of star players, then a cap on no. of star players in any team is the obvious answer for leagues with such problems.

Thanks in advance for all feeback

However they are representative of the value those players contribute to most teams.

SP have a huge impact in most games - and if you are playing with rookie teams its even more significant as you can't skill up to negate their influence easily.

Most leagues are quite happy to allow SP models to be used to represent a normal player of the same position (Griff as a human blitzer etc) so get the model and use it all the time. :D

Yeah I sort of guessed as much. I think we are going to freeboot now, whilst still alowing choaches to buy stars at their full price.

To stop choaches loading the intial rosters up with stars I have been tossing around the idea that no greater than 20% of your total teams cost can be permant sp's

plus i think where gonna drop the handicap table for the vault system.

If you really want to allow brought stars, firstly make it so each star if individual (so if someone buys Morg, then no-one else can buy/freeboot him).
Then if someone else wants to buy him, they need to pay his full cost+10k (and the extra 10k is listed on the roster), or they can freeboot him at "buy" cost, but then he leaves the team and becomes available again.
It will make coaches think twice about loading up on Stars.

(* Not saying these are good rules, but then I dislike stars anyway. ;) )

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

Testing so far on the purchase prices for the LRB 4.0 have shown that those prices are pretty good for what you get.

So are they really expensive ... yes. Are they worth that much ... yeah again.

i think the problem MOST people have with star players is they remember the days of 3rd ed BB where every orc team had 4 morg n thorgs, every undead team had 4 count luthors, every human team had 2 morgs and 2 luthors, and so on.

i think they're ok in small doses, and i'd be ok with having rules for keeping them permanently in a league setting on a LIMITED basis. AKA only 1 star of any type per team at a high price, altho maybe not quite as high as the higher level.

having 1 star player on the team makes them add flavor to the existing team. having 4 makes them the team with the other players adding flavor, and that's no fun at all. and then the only way to compete was to join in on all that.
