First skill for a human catcher, rolled a double.
Hello all,
I just started a human team last night and wondered what the best double skill roll is best. I am torn between Jump up and Nerves of steel.
Any thoughts?

Obviously you have to give him block next. You don't get that many doubles so you have to plan long term. Ok it doesn't help him when he gets hit but it's still a great skill for catcher so you can use him to hunt in the opponents backfield when you kick to your oponent before he can get the ball protected.kadu-c wrote:Hmmm Dauntless is ok but as long as he doesn't have Block there are better choices IMHO.
Personally I think NoS is a crummy skill unless you plan to give him pass blok too. The way I see it is this: scoring is easy, almost every team can do it pretty reliably with just a few skills on their thrower/runner. Defence is where the game is won however. If you can score while kicking the game is already half won. That's why you should invest more in skills that help you on defence rather then skills that help you on offence. NoS is almost purely an offense skill (unless combined with pass block, but even then I would only take it on AG 4 catcher types). Dauntless is a defensive skill allowing you to mix it up in the opponents backfield just after the kick. So to me dauntless seems more valuable.

I usually use my fastest players as hunters, so i'd give him Dauntless, Block, Strip Ball/Tackle or Guard, and Block, Sidestep for the next skills. NoS is only good if you make him a passblocker and he isn't yet agile enough to make the interception easily.

I think Nerves of Steel has its uses, but Jump Up you can use so much more (my catchers are down a little too often imo)! Dauntless on the other hand gives you a very mobile blitz option, combined with Strip Ball and some Guard on blitzers you must be able to take on any ball carrier!
Both tempting....
