Some Kick Accuracy?

Post by Mo »

Recently, I've been teaching the game to a bunch of new players. On the kickoff-off I explain, "Now pick a square where the ball won't land. Its never occured to anyone in this world that they could actually practice kicking the ball." Its a reasonable tactic to aim directly at the player you don't want to catch it :-?

On a basic kick, there's only a 1:48 chance of the ball scattering one square and bouncing into the target square. With the Kick skill that goes to 1:24. In LRB the odds are actually worse than that once you factor in "Bad Kick" results. With PBBL the Bad Kick is gone, and with the occaisional 2 square scatters the math is a little funky but about the same. At least with PBBL, the High Kick result increases the odds of someone catching the ball.

But how about giving a serious chance that it might land where it was aimed? One way to do this would be to modify a Nice Weather roll to include the ball lands on target and bounces if no one is in that square.

Cheers,
Maureen

i think the kick skill is already more than enough accuracy. you have better than 2x the odds of putting the ball even in the VICINITY of where you want it ("better than" because the rolls all round down, where on a 1 the ball doesnt move at all but yes, will then bounce) And with kick, your odds of having it bounce back to the target square are doubled since 2-3 both count as 1, so that's 2 sides of the die that open the option of having the ball get that 1:8 chance of coming back to the starting square.

With kick I often put the ball in a square 3 squares away from being "out"... so only a 6, in one of three directions, will put the ball off the pitch on the scatter (sure, i could risk a bounce-out after the scatter still, but again im ok with the odds). To me that's more than acceptable and there's no way I would chance putting the ball there without the Kick skill. And like I said... personally i dont think there's any need for more accuracy than that.

Kicks are NEVER "perfect" in the real world and come on, this is bloodbowl... what's life without some chance on the dice? :)
