Dirty Tricks?

Post by Patriarch »

Hi -I've started playing BB a few weeks ago, using friends old 1st edition - but with 4th edition rules. But I have seen something about cards called Dirt Tricks, magic items and random events, and have found out they are part of "Death Zone"...

My question is - is it standard to play with these cards? Is it fun? Should I buy some over e-bay to get the full BB experience?

Thanks

I would suggest the cards are easier to play with, randomly select and are a lot of fun to add variety to the game!!

you can find new versions of cards in the PBBL rulebook... PBBL is also known as "the Vault", so check that subforum here on TBB for more info.

I've never played with cards myself, i only started playing during LRB3. but I dont think i would like the randomness of the cards very much and I like the game just fine without them. many other people think the game is missing something without the cards, and love the fact that PBBL is re-introducing cards in the game. It seems to just be a personal preference.

Some of the cards were alright, but many were over-powered and gamebreakers. Wheter they're right for your group depends totally on their attitude to gaming. If they're happy to play a great game, and then lose because you drew a lucky cards, then you should like them. If they would seriously p*ss them off, then you're probably better steering clear.

They're (afaik) not available to download, but they're often for sell on eBay, and there's a full listing of them on Galak's site here.

But the Vault cards are more balanced, and shouldn't be to difficult to incorparate into a 3rd/4th ed league.

Out of interest (and completeness), if you're not totally stuck on playing 3rd/4th edition, then you could always switch to playing the latest version, LRB 4.0, downloadable from the Specialist Games website.

I had feedback from leagues still using LRB 4.0 but with the PBBL 1.9 cards (most either allowed 2 50k draws or gave out between 100k and 200k to use for card draws to each team before each game).

I've had real good feedback that this is real fun and those leagues have enjoyed doing this. They say the PBBL cards are a lot more balanced than the ones in the 3rd edition boxed set.

Near the end of this you'll find 8 pages with the rules for the new cards if you are interested ... also each card is linked to a playing card so you can use a standard deck of cards to draw and see what you get for the game.
