Doubles on a Norse Blitzer

Post by maxlongstreet »

A week ago one of my blitzers rolled doubles on his first skill--He's gotten one more skill since. I know the most crunchy thing to do probably would have been to take dodge or stand firm, but I couldn't resist picking up dauntless--I just took multiple block with my second skill. The possiblity of frenzying two guys off the pitch at once is just too amusing to pass up. Anyone else have a dauntless/multiple block norse blitzer, and if so, how has it turned out for you?

Dauntless is a nice skill, though not sure on the Multi-Block combo. Would take a lot of work and some serious player placement to manage to push 2 players off.

Plus, and this is the killer, Frenzy doesn't work with Multiple Block.

Frenzy doesn't work with multiple block? Hmmnn. It's not being played right in our league then. Dauntless does work with multiple block though, right? If I'm blocking two ST 3 players, they add up to ST 6 for blocking purposes, then I make my dauntless roll against ST 6, correct?

Correct.

thanks Darkson--Most of us in our league are new or rusty. That's too bad. I wonder if others use the dauntless multiple block combo much--Risky but potentially very rewarding.

Also, Multi-Block is a way of avoiding having to Frenzy if the 2nd Block wwould put you in a bad position.

I'd plump for Side Step. It protects the Blitzer from being pushed off the sidelines, which is a danger for any player with Frenzy, as they tend to spend a lot of time in that area of the pitch. Though Stand Firm does this too, the benefit of Side Step is that you can use it to set up a crowd push in your next turn. It is a key psychological tool that can make your opponent worry about blocking the Blitzer - and anything that keeps your AV 7 players alive longer is something you want. Stand Firm is possibly very slightly better in terms of on pitch effects, but it either works or it doesn't. Side Step is worth it on a Frenzy, Jump Up player IMO because it has that little extra edge to worry your opponent.

That is a very nast combination. Everything but a both down (which won't hurt your blitzer) or an attacker down (which will hurt the other guy) will set the guy up to be pushed into the crowd with a straight block.
Not following up might help, but you have frenzy so there may be problems there as well.
Essentially, they have to blitz and run away in order to hit one of your blitzers standing by the sidelines safely.

That can, of course, be countered with Piling On... :-)

Dauntless is good. I'd have taken Stand Firm myself, so I could frenzy to the sideline without fear, but that's me.

The Q&A still leaves a couple things vague for me--Does Multiple Block not working with frenzy mean you don't have to follow up on a multiple block pushback? Could you make a second block against one opponent? Do you have to? Thanks in advance for your help!

And you concur correctly.

Basically, if you Multi-Block, Frenzy is "turned off" and plays no part in the Blocking sequence.

(And no, you can Multi-Block one person to avoid Frenzy. ;) )
