No house rule .. just thinking of possibilities ...
What about a league where there is a difference between offense and defense team.
Each Team gets a budget to buy offense players, and a seperate budget to buy defensive players (and a third with which they can boost their offense, defense and/or rerolls, fans etc.)
Something like: Total X GP's, Minimum Offense Y gp's, minimum defense Z gp's
When kicking you have to set up the defending guys, when receiving the offense.
Maybe 1, 2 or 3 players can play both - though I'm not sure if that'd be a good idea (maybe they should cost 1.5 times their usual costs).
Also, the SPP system might need a tweak or two. Like an additional SPP opportunity for knocking down the carrier of the ball (for defense - as compensation for them not being likely to make a touchdown).
What do you guys think bout this?

I think this is a wonderful idea except you would have to start with 2 million gold coins and either tweak the starting teams, or you could end up with "power" teams where the defense sucked and the offence was excellent. Of course this is about the standard in football...

Hmm true I gues, but some teams can excell at both in the current setup. My game yesterday was an example of this, as I was playing pro elves. Of course with pro elves it's insanely easy to score, but I also find them very easy to play on defense. Why? Strength 3 mv 8 sweepers in the form of catchers. Throw block and dodge or tackle on them and you have an almost unstopable sweeper that can cover 90% of the field without effort.David Bergkvist wrote:Some teams are good at defense and poor at offence and others are the other way round already. I don't see a balance issue with this difference being greater.
I thhink this idea has merit if for example you make a human team more like this....
0-16 lineman
0-4 Blockers <Offence only>
0-4 Blitzers <Defense only>
0-4 Catchers <Offence only>
0-4 Safety <Defense Only>
0-2 Throwers >offence only>
It's a subtle thing, but it would allow you to develop both an offence and a defence. You give your safeties block tackle diving tackle etc to stop the ball carrier, while you load your catchers up on things like sprint sure feet sure hands etc things that would allow you to score more easily.. In this way you could tailor your defensive and offensive strategies to what you like. Yes you can do that in a limited fashion now, but if you had an offensive unit and a defensive unit, then you would be able to make dedicated players instead of making all around players..

I think it's a little bit more tricky. Teams who can get catcher often play without them on defense. Other teams like Chaos or Dwarves nearly always play with the same starting 11. Chaos doesn't have Catchers oder Throwers, so they can't change the 11. Maybe the proposal is good, but imho not for BloodBowl in the way it is.
