Need Help with New League!
'Ello,
Our former league commisioner has just quit. He did not run a very good league, and i am at the point where i would like to run the league. However, i have never ran a league before, and so am torn.
We currently only have like 6 players in the league and so want to recruit more. I am running a bloodbowl Demo day next week, and am planning on converting some of my warhammer models to BB. Is there some suggested easy team conversions?
Also i could really use some help planning out this league. What is nessacary to run a good league? And what do you believe makes a good league (schedualed games? A prize pot?)
Thank u,
All help is good
Cheers,
Bert

Hi - I am in the same position - just starting a league in Stafford This is what I think. First you need to ensure everyones using the same rules.
The vault rules are the most up to date and well thought out although you may opt for a few house rules.
check out:
http://www.midgardbb.com
Looking at league:
Establish No of League Players: & Teams - start all from scratch (usually at TR100) - Create a basic Roster or use one from boxed set.
Player / Team Name / Teams Race / Str TR100
Comprise of 1 division: establish a cap TR200 (certainly I would cap rookie teams at this level – thus retiring any additional players that take it over this).
General rules to we are using - you may consider adopting:
1) You may only score league points if you play a league member
2) You may only play with a new LRB compliant, TR100 team (i.e. those in rules above)!
3) There is no time limit or closed match schedule so you can play when you have the time. There is no limit on how many matches you must play!
4) There will be a limit of 2 teams per race (but would prefer if we can get all different), to ensure a good spread of teams.
5) Initially, there will be a limit of one team per coach, but we can change this if we go to elite fraction!
6) You can retire and start again with a team at any time (re-set to TR100 with no league points) providing it doesn’t break any of the rules stated above!
Guests! - to assist with others joining or just playing from time to time!
These are official players (not Auntie Sue, The dog and the goldfish) In the spirit of letting all players benefit from playing a game against a guest who turns up on a night to play but may only want a one off game, teams get awarded SPPs as normal but do not get any league points for the game (you run the risk of injuries so need the rewards to recover). The only restriction I suggest putting on this is to only play an official guest game on a night where we are all gathered and a friend or other BB player comes along as a few guest games in home premise may not be fair on all other teams.
Star Players, Wizards & Apoths!
These are officially laid out in the rules above and I am not suggesting changing these. Only that players must advise opponent of Strength of team prior to match and of any of the above they have on the roster before the match. If in the instance 2 players have recruited the same star player….sorry guys he/she refuses to play for any team and takes a day off sick with both your investment – so be warned!
SPP’s!
These are officially laid out in the rules above and I am not suggesting changing these.
Schedule! - establish one - ours is:
The only restriction for playing is that you must play 4 out of 5 of the other players in the league before playing again (this allows for one player being unavailable) We will play until Christmas and then have a playoffs of top 4 teams (semi’s & finals only). After the playoffs experienced teams will progress to elite league and have a separate format and we will start new team league.
League Scoring
I suggest as follows.
10 points for a win
5 points for a draw
0 points for a loss
1 for every TD scored (max of 5)
1 for every casualty inflicted (max of 5) (this is BH or above – and yes fouling and crowd push can count for these but you don’t get SPP’s for this type of cas)
This means that per match, you can have a maximum of 20 points!
Keep track of the league points and if not present request that both players verify the results to you post game and draft up a spreadsheet to this effect.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Jason

League Rules!
So you do not suggest a set schedual of play?
The way i was figuring i would do it is draw up the schedual on the first day of competition for the entire length of the league so you always know who you are going to play.
This will give people time to schedual games with the other players in the league.
I was also going to allow each player one Exhibition game per week which did not count towards their league standings but did count for money and SPP.
Please LMK if this is a bad idea.

Re: League Rules!
Depends on what venue you've got - if your all meeting around the same place and attendees are going to be reliable then easier to schedule matches, if not schedule the first then let them play around as suggested but without playing against the same coach until they have played a number of other players first (saves 2 players storming ahead by constantly playing each other).lutherblue wrote:So you do not suggest a set schedual of play?

Way I figure it one or two will miss the odd session and that can hinder progress. better to be flexible but ensure players have a time frame to complete matches (possibly ask players to play so many a month or limit number of games a month) Just a few idea's - best bet is to talk it around with other players first and flesh out any kinks in the arnour so that you are all happy with the routine you are playing under.
best of luck!

We use a set schedule and it works very well. It all depends on the consistency of the group. If all 6 of you will be constant attendees or get your game done on time then you can go with a set schedule and succeed.

Just be aware that these are experimental rules for play testing. In a league with inexperienced coaches I would opt to use the official living rule-book found on http://www.specialist-games.com/bloodbowl/default.asp These will probably result in less discussion over the rules.Tritex wrote:The vault rules are the most up to date and well thought out although you may opt for a few house rules.
I like scheduled leagues, but they can cause problems if coaches have widely varying time/desire to play. Coaches who want to play a lot will feel they play too few matches and coaches who are not as fanatical might drop out because the league is too time consuming.
Besides a scheduled or non-scheduled league you could also opt for a non-scheduled league with cups. These cups are scheduled matches and coaches can enter one team, in the open league they can play whatever team they like when they like.
