Skill for Ogre on Ogre team...

Post by DaOgreCoach »

Just rolled a 7 for one of my ogres in the team and I absolutely do not know what skill to give him! He already has Guard.

The league uses Vault Rules and in case you want to know this is the rest of the team...
Ogre w/Break Tackle & Juggernaut
Ogre w/Block & Break Tackle
Ogre w/Guard & undecided skill
Ogre w/Block & Multiple Block
Ogre w/ nothing
Ogre w/Guard

Snotling w/Sprint
7 Snotlings w/nothing

2 RRs
1 Apothecary
I was thinking on the lins of either Leader (as anyone can have Passing skills now), Stand Firm or Grab.

Input anyone?

What? Did I miss that memo or something? ;) No more seriously, Ogres only have access to Passing skills on a doubles, so that rules out leader.

imo at some point you'll want an Ogre with Strong Arm (for throwing Snots) though I'm not convinced it should be the dude with Guard.

Break Tackle would be my choice. Helps him get into places where his Guard might be needed.

Grab is a bit meh on Ogres imo. It's a bit meh overall apart from assisting in Crowd Surfing plays and setting up Multiple Blocks.

Stand Firm imo is also now very meh. But it does have synergy with Guard, making it harder to shift your line out of the way and forcing people to go a different route or work hard to break through.

Where's your Piling On killing machine Ogre?

Ooops! That's what happens when you just skimm through the new rules while thinking of other stuff... my mistake! :D

Always thought that a piling on ogre would mean a ton and a half of boots in his side as soon as he touched the ground.. :D

haha, yeah. Good times. :P

Though to be fair, it's hard to get a lot of extra feet in against a PO Ogre. The general policy is, don't reroll AV. Reroll Injuries, which keeps him standing a bit more often. And keep Stand Firm Ogres near him.

But of course, a PO Ogre becomes a high priority target for people. I have a Block, MB, PO Vampire now. I'll get Jump up next.

I think you should go with Break tackle. (this way you get your ogre to guard
where you realy need him to

all other skills are not as usefull

(i am talking from a LRB4 point of view)

Break Tackle would be my choice too. Supprizing how often it comes in handy.

First skill on my 2 Treemen on my Halfling team ... not even a question for me.

I'm thinking about it on 2 of my Guard Ogres on my Ogre team to do set ups for my 2 Multiple Block Ogres.

That's the same problem I'm having with Grab atm. I like the Side Step Canceling, but I struggle to figure out how to use it properly.

Tom, I'm interested, why is it the first skill without a question for the Treemen? I can see why you'd have it on the Guard Ogres in combo with Multi Block Ogres though.

Its a nice choice on the Treemen so when they take root they can still keep the opponents next to them.

Bing, bing, bing ... give the man a prize. Treeman who Take Root can still block but cannot follow-up. This normally means you throw one last block before having no ability at all to block. Having Grab at least means if I roll pushes on a block with a Take Root Treeman that you still have to dodge to get away from the Tree.

sounds like Grab is not that a bad choice for a guard Ogre. But break tackle is also a good choice.

I have not experience with Vault rules, but I think Break Tackle will help you out in desperate situation and Grab can help prevent getting in those desperate situations.

It all depends on how many of your opponents have acces to side step. It not many have it yet, maybe Break Tackle might be the better option.

In my LRB 4.0 experience, side step can be be a real bitch. I have seen many coaches try to get my Blodge Side Step DE liner away from the ball, all in vain of course (without tackle) :D
