I tend not to cage closely, I try to make a loose cage on one flank. A Hobo carrying thet ball (preferably my Blodge one). One Bull is the front of the cage, to blitz holes in the defense. Other players are used to tie up as many oponents as possible.

But I can see the use of having a bull carrying the ball, although that means one less able for blitzing. On lower TR I always try to have a BC carrying the ball. On higher TR I well tend to try to score with hobo's and if possible dwarves, as they skill up very slowly otherwise.

And the idea of a close case with two hobo's is appealing, because it has higher movability. But make sure you CAN blitz any player off the pitch who challenges your hobo's.
In fact I'm going to make this my new strat: lure them into that position and than let the crowd punish them! Evil and good! fits ther CD's fluff ideally :)

In general it is always a risk to change ball carriers on CD's. I have seen three times failures of pick ups with RR by hobo's to finally pick it up with a bull without a RR!! :D
They do need the luck to make their plays!!

As I said, past friday I got my chance to try my new CD team.
It was against Norse (with an Ogre) and it was one of the most intense games I remember to have played!
My opponent knew what Norse "block skill" was there for, and started bashing every living soul he faced on the pitch!
He got the ball in the first part, and by turn three I already had one CD and a Hob Badly Hurt, along with one more CD in the KO box.
By turn 6 the ball (still in Norse possession) kept moving down to my TD zone (5 squares apart), and since my dice roll were "disgracing" me (I was down to 7 players vs 11), I tryed another aproach: I just went for the cage, surrounding the ball, BUT with the Norse attached to it!
The objective was obvious, to delay his move, and to deny him the "so close" TD, and after some desperate move from him (droping the ball) I just left it there, with what was left from my team to "guard" the ball.

0-0, at half time, and only 9 players for the second half (vs 11).

On the second time, I went for the "real cage", as far from the damned Ogre (in the centre) as I could, and started building it on my right wing.
Luckly his kick on the ball sent it off limits, so I gave it to a bull, alowing me to be a bit more confident (yet cautious).
The first 5 turns of my offensive turned out to be the continuation of the first part massacre, and by turn 6 I only had 4 players on the field (even one bull KO by a blitz form that #@%# ogre) against 7/8 of the norse.
Yet, the ball was still in the bull, and while my oppo concentrated all his norse on my "almost cage" thing (that never moved a square!), the bull made use of his legs and skills and "went for it".
9 squares move in the 6th + 8 desperate squares move in the 7th turn gave me the TD and the first win with the team.
End of the game: no bigger injuries, all players ready for next match and 80k to spend.
Shall I save them for the Troll, buy an apo, or another Hobo?
Sugestions are welcome!
:)

PS:Not sure what the next team will be yet.

Definitely buy the Apo. If you don't you will regret it in your next game

Apo for sure.

If you dare Nuffle on this a Bull wil die on a snake eyed GFI in your next match.

My Bulls have the "Thin Skull" trait. After every block they make, roll a D6. On a 1+ they get ko-ed and stay in the ko-box for the rest of the game.

... there I was hoping your "votes" would go for the Troll!

I'd better go for safety then and buy the Apo, and keep those extra 30k for the next guy...

Thanks

An after the apo, I would max-out on CDs and BCs (if you haven't already), and get an extra few hobbos on the bench, before getting the Troll.

Actually, since your team has nobody that a Troll can throw, I wouldn't even bother with the Troll. Way too unreliable to my taste.

That post has a lot of very useful stuff Tim (and not only for CD players)!
That St4 was luring me away from the "blitzer prespective" over the BC, but I'll give it more attencion from now on!
:)
