DE development

Post by arv9673 »

It's too late because I already chose Guard, but just curious what others would have done: Have a DE team consisting of 11 Line elves. First one to get a skill rolled double 5's (+MA). No skills what-so-ever on the team, would have liked block, but not wasting doubles on it.

Guard is essential on elven teams and I think you made a good choice. +MA is always a nice choice too, but in this case I would have taken guard too, especially since you don't have any positionals yet.

Yes, definitely Guard was the best choice. With 11 line-elves, I presume you are in for the long haul... in which case Block will come without too much difficulty, as will greater movement in the form of your blitzers/witch elves.

In fact, aside from giving one leader, I'd give all my Line-elves guard ... definitely. That's if I would like to win ... aside from that you could (should may be?) pick something a little more original that would fit more with your playing style and grant you (and your opponents) more fun ...

I'd probably take Mighty Blow for the Witch Bitches, Dauntless for the Blitzers and Strong Arm for the Passer.

Oh ... and by talking about doubles and passer, why did I see so many time coaches taking Leader for 'em ? May be it was a passing skill in previous editions of the LRB ? (like ... he's the QB, he's the leader ?)

That's probably because a thrower gets hit less often and should hence still be here when you need his Leader reroll.

I don't remember Leader being a passing skill in previous editions, but it will be in the upcoming LRB5.

previously it was a general skill. LRB made it a general trait. I think the vault rules make it a passing skill for 2 reasons:

1)they want to make it so that most players still need a doubles roll to take it because they feel it's a bit more powerful than most other gen skills apparently.

2)in american football, the quarterback (thrower) is most often the team's leader, at least on offense.

tbh it's one of my minor beefs with the vault. when it was a gen skill in 3rd ed it wasn't overused. many teams had one, many did not. but that's a different issue for a different thread.

Guard is allways a good choice on doubles on an elve team. DE need Guard even more, because they have to do some more blocking then other elve Teams.
So well done and keep going. Starting only with Lineman is a hard task to take.

Well, the team's had some hard times. I played a few chaos and khmeri teams and one pretty bad-ass Human team (my team rating has outdistanced my skill/luck). As it stands now the team is:
12 Lineman (1 kicker, 1 guard, 3 blockers and one blodger). Had a WE and he was going to get a skill, but he couldn't seem to make it through the game (insert graphic of big red splotch on the pitch here). Three of the skilled players have nigglers though (kicker and two blockers) so it's been tough keeping going. Gonna go spend some money now, haven't yet decided if i need a WE or another rr (only have 2). I guess we'll see. Here goes nothing... I really don't want to retire them and start over, but I may anyway if the nigglers keep coming.
oh yeah FYI: team's called "groovy dudes" and my handle is the same as here , if anyone cares to come and cherry pick a little.

Well probably because her coach imbued her with self doubt and gender awareness issues. A witch elf is a SHE!!

Well, I always max-out on Blitzers and get at least 3 rerolls before starting to buy Witch Elves.

You can look at my current DE team, my coach name is Cramy. I am debatting if I should get a 4th reroll or if I should get a WE next.

WEs are great players, if they get good support from other players, and the RRs to get her out of trouble.

At least that's my opinion, and it works for me (unless I have been lucky).

Cramy is right, there are only 2 ways playing with WE.
First: Have one from the Start on when the other teams have no Tackle, so she can hardly be kicked ass and can easily reach her first skill (BLOCK!)
Second: by some later when the Team is strong enough to help/assist her.

First way ist often strong, but you have to keep in mind that she does not take 2 many SPP from the rest of the Team.

We have exactly this split in our current league, one DE player doesn't like the WE, especially early on and has max'd out the blitzers. The other player (me) thinks they're part of the dark elf style and starts with one. I've now got both, with 3 blitzers, by game 6. They're not hogging the SPPs as I use the blitzers a lot, but it's worth mentioning that this is a short league (10 games or so) and that means that the positionals are viewed differently IMO.

I see you have taken another WE. They are nice but also a liability untill they get block (not that diffucult as they only need two TD's)

I used to take them ASAP too but as they cost a lot, it sometimes is better to have more reliable (=AV8) players on the team. I would at least want two blitzer now before investing in a WE. More than once the WE get's fouled of the pitch before she does anything worthy and keeps sitting there without block. Worst thing to happen is that she get's a nasty injury = bye bye 110k gp.
It happened enough to me and blitzers tend to be a little less probable to cause this frustration (and only 100k gp ;-))

...I can see your point there, put in my expierience it showed up, that with the extra skills the WE has, Jump Up so make some extra Blocks and of Frenzy the other Team is often afraid of being push into the crowd, so you can improve your game a lot with the extra skills, and we all now the elve-curse 2+ Dodge, and the WE has already dodge
It also showed up, that from the moment on you have 2 of them and there is no longer thix big target on her, she is stronger and your possibilites on going into the game are growing strongy.

But as I said, I can see your point and it isn´t a misstake going without one from the start.
