Mighty Blow & Dirty Player
Does anyone feel that the modifications to these skills in the living rulebook unbalances the game away from the 'hitting' teams (ie makes them more difficult to play), taken in the context of all of the other rules modifications that make up the Living Rulebook. The reason I ask is that I am playing in a league where one of the many house rules are that we use the Mighty Blow and Dirty Player skills as described in version 3 of the box set (ie the plusses apply to armour and injury rolls)
Also, the other house rule that we use is that Mighty Blow does add to fouling attempts as per Version 3.
I am arguing with the person that runs the club that these rules are biased and makes the 'hitting' teams even harder than they should be (Again taken in context of the other rules modifications that make up the Living Rules)
I don't know if this is important or not, but the person that runs the club plays a Chaos team and I play a Wood Elf team (Str v Agi).
I would like to hear views from BBRCs if possible, as well as non-GW affiliated people. The reason I'd like to hear from non-GW people is that the person that runs the club described this website as GW biased because of all of the BBRCs that post here and that we should not take your answers as being in the best interest of the game.
My personal feelings on the subject is that LRB v1.3 is probably the most balanced rules we've yet had.

The MB skill is way too good if it applyies both on armour and injury. And combined with the DP skill
.
In my league we don't use DP. It's not like it's house ruled that way, nobody just pick it for their players.
If he's playing chaos he probably just like to smash players around. This is the only way a chaos team can win against a WE team.
If MB is used both on AV and INJ then it's indeed in his favor.
Especially if he plays against your WE.

BTW MB works fine now. I'm not complaining about it and none in my legaue is.

First remember that this game is from GW... and as they sell it, they have very much interest in keeping it balanced, because a unbalanced game is less interesting, so sells less....
And their word is "final", anyway, in matters of world wide accepted rules... wich doesn't mind that you shouldn't try house rules, because I think you should!!...
As you can choose to use Mighty Blow after you roll the AV dice, I guess it is still a very usefull skill...
Personally I think that this new rules make every team harder to play... wich is good because it makes stunties teams more... well, I wouldn't say competive, but....

Thanks for that Marcus. I didn't want to mention it because I was hoping someone else would. I think the changes to the hand off rule, Strong Arm and Nerves of Steel becoming traits have balanced out the changes to Mighty Blow, Dirty Player and Stand Firm (Which was always way too good).The change to handoff affects finesse teams far more than the changes to MB and DP affects power teams.
I've found power teams to be more viable since the 2k1 review, not less.
Incidentally Marcus, are you in anyway affiliated to GW ?

Dirty Player is gaining popularity in our league again, since it can be counted on to be a good chance to get a hit on the other team's lead scorer. The new rules on MB and DP have toned down the damage that strength teams can do, but I this is a good thing.
I am worried about the effectiveness that Piling On has now gained in the LRB. Now that you are not constantly fouled when using it and you get to apply it after the roll, the skill has improved significantly.
I think that the handoff change can be planned around and requires a change in strategy, whereas the injury changes can't be adjusted to as easily. Since the strength teams had such an obvious advantage in earlier editions, this is really just finding balance in the game.

The fact you club organiser runs a "bashy" team makes it likely he using 3ed rules for his own benefit as much as anything, though wheter he's being consiously biased I couldn't say as I've never met him.
What about the other coaces in your club, what do they think? If enough of you voiced your concerns maybe he'd have a re-think.
If all else fails (and I agree this is not an ideal) play a "bashy" team back at him and pound his team into the dirt. He might see the errors of his ways then

Last season (using the ver 3) I had a beastman with DP, MB, & RSF
. By the end of the season he had racked up over 90 CAS's
. It got to a stage where no one wanted to play me becasue of THAT player
. To make it worse, he had regenerate
.
On reflection this player was too good, and I prefer the LRB rules which we are now using, my fantastic number 6 (as he was known in our league, or was it that f***ing number 6) has now sadly retired.
