I just started our league with 4 Black Orcs, 4 Blitzers and three Goblins. Next thing to buy will be the apo, then a thrower. I'm not sure if I should take a Troll later because of all the reasons mentioned above.

I have to agree that taking a Troll is unreliable, but I am moving to the conclusion that taking one or two goblins anyway still considerably improves the ability to get a quick TD if needed. while at the same time the extra movement and agility in support of the blitzers can also help the defense.

IMO trolls in a statring team are a bit to unreliable, the troll needs a trollherder to keep it from doing nothing while you can't affort to have your players herd him in defence. Goblins are a great asset to a orc team they can score a quick TD when you need one and the can go to gaps other teammates can't go and put pressure on the ball carrier. But IMO you have to make a choise do you whant to block and try to beat your opponent to a bloody pulp, or do you whant to play a tha tricky orc game?

BOTH  Kidding. I like to play what an NFL coach would call Smashmouth football.. You bash everyone down and it's much easier to score.

Nice, thats the way i like to play as well. But the funny thing is my orc Blitzers seem to injure more opponents than the BOB's or the troll who's at the bottom of the injure my opponents table, and thats probably becouse as soon as thing start to get ugly he's left alone and than he starts doing nothing at the wrong moments. Alot of the time he is more annoing than that MV10 AG5 sprint, sure feet, dodge skaven thingy one of the other coaches can field.

I started my orc team with 2 goblins on it and I love them!!!!! One got side step which is really annoying, and the other one has got ag 4 and he is going to skill up soon.......I use him as a ball carrier and when I got the side bashed out, the little guy squirts through for the TD........Need sure feet though.......

That's common. Orc blitzer start with block and move 6 making them the ideal player on your team to throw... well blitz's with. Last thing you want it the double skull rolled into a double skull with a bob so you lean on the blitzer. So more hits = more cas. Very typical.

I suppose it all depends. Admittedly my Orc team is way behind the 2.5 casualty per game curve. After 11 games they are averaging 1.55 casualties per game. :?:

But, at the top of the casualty causing is Starvin' Marvin the Troll with 5 casualties!

One BOB has 3, two have two and the newest BOB (3 games now) has none.

My only two lineorcs have one apiece as does 3 out of 4 blitzers (all have played nearly all games). The blitzers, however, have 7 of the 8 touchdowns for the team and 1 out of 6 completions.

Truly, off the subject, those are some pitiful numbers! But the Troll is pulling his weight and throwing it around! He took Break Tackle and Block on his first two skill ups and is at 25 SPP now.

I likes my Troll!!! :D

I'm late to this party but I'm a FIRM believer in Goblins on Orc teams for their psychological effect. I use Stuny to squirt them through to the back of the opponents line and from there they lend assists to the Blitzers and BOBs. While they're back there they are now scoring threats so they have to be taken seriously. Any Gob not in a TZ has to be marked up on and that's one less guy on a Blitzer. Also, they're often they're the only players that can get to a ball carrier before the cage can fully develop. 1/2 die Blocks are painless more often than not so I really just run them like I stole them and Goblins seem to make my Orc teams. :D

I've always started my orc teams with a troll and 2 gobbos. I've had a lot of luck with it. The first season our league did one of my gobbos was the top player in the league, 10 game season and he finished with 68 SPP. Also had a BOB that season that finished with 61 SPP.

For our 3rd season, we got 5 new coaches that joined so we decided to restart the league fresh. I started the team with a troll and 2 gobbos. During the first game of this season I lost to a norse team. He killed my troll and 2 BOB. So i've spent most of this season rebuilding. We're 5 games into it right now and my team is looking like this -

Thrower - pass, sure hands, accurate - 4 CP, 1 TD, 1 MVP
Blitzer - Block, Mighty Blow - 1 TD 3 CAS
Blitzer - Block, Mighty Blow - 1 TD 2 CAS
Blitzer - Block, Mighty Blow, Piling On - 3 TD 4 CAS
Blitzer - Block, Mighty Blow, Jump Up - 1 TD 4 CAS 1 MVP
BOB - Mighty Blow - 3 CAS <- has only played 1 game so far.
BOB - Block, Jump Up, -1MA - 1 TD 2 CAS 2 MVP
BOB - no skills - no stats - Just bought him after last game.
BOB - Block, Mighty Blow - 1 TD 6 CAS 1 MVP
Gobbo - Dodge, Stunty, Right stuff, Side Step - 3 TD
Gobbo - Dodge, Stunty, Right stuff - 1 CAS

4 RR, 8 FF and an Apoth (decided to pick it up after losing so many players)

I have a 2.40 TD a game average and a 5.00 CAS a game average. Not too bad considering how many players i've had with MNG and injuries / death.

So far i'm 3 wins 2 losses. Record has looked like this -

vs. Norse TD 2-3 CAS 3-3 Loss
vs. Amazons TD 2-0 CAS 4-1 Win
vs. Wood Elves TD 2-5 CAS 4-1 Loss
vs. Goblins TD 2-1 CAS 3-2 Win
vs. Goblins TD 4-1 CAS 11-0 Win (Felt bad after this game, 1st half, round 1. 2 BOB's CAS both of his trolls off the LOS. After that it was a slaughter. His players that didn't get CAS out were thrown out for having secret weapons.

The only other team in the league that has come close to that kind of devastation is the Dwarf team who had 9 CAS in its first game against the wood elves. His death roller had 6 CAS in the first 6 rounds of the 1st half, was the wood elves first time playing his team as well. He does much better now.

Anyway to get back to the reason I started this post :P I love goblins on an my orc teams. My favorite was my 4 AG, catch, blodge, side step gobbo. Sadly my troll ate him during the league championship while I was trying to break a tie in the 8th round of the 2nd half. I ended up losing in Overtime.
