LRB 5.0 Push back of players that are down

Post by dendron »

What happens, in this situation below:

___________Side line
L L
S S
...S B

bold are mine player and the others are from my opponent. Player B is blocking my player S. He pushed my player into the upper laying player that was pushed off the pitch. I thought that you couldn't push away lying players in LRB 4 but I don't know how it is about LRB 5.

Thanks in advance,
Dendron

In LRB4 and in LRB5, players that are down can be pushed like any other player.

assuming that B is a blocker, and the S's are standing players, while the L's are prone (lying down) players...

And assuming that the Blocker (B) has pushed back the bolded S selecting to push him back into one of the L's

(alot of assuming going on here, but there wasn't much of and explaination--at least when I started typing...;) )

B blocks S he can choose to push him back either into the S to the left, or into one of the L's

If you choose the L Diagonally to the left of S, then you HAVE to push L to the left, as that appears to be an unocupied space on the pitch. If it isn't, then he suffers the same fate as the L directly above S.

Which is that the L directly above S is pushed out of bounds and beaten up by the crowd as there are no eligible, empty squares to push him to on the pitch.

To answer the question in the title, a prone player that gets pushed back (even by secondary pushes) still must follow the rules on how a player is pushed back, even if that means you push your own player out of bounds.

I definitely need more info: who is whom in the diagram?

As a general answer: iirc all pushbacks are made according to the blocking diagram and are decided by the blocking player (unless skills dictate otherwise). One must choose an empty square if available. If none are empty then you push back against other players which, in turn, are pushed back as if they were blocked by the pushed player (I think that's right on the italicized text) with the original blocking coach deciding all push directions.

So, if "S" were being blocked by "B", then "S" would be pushed against "S", "L" or the other "L". If "S" is pushed back into the "L" behind it, then "L" would be pushed into the crowd.

I reserve the right to be overruled by a rules guru! :P

Unless S has sidestep in which case he can go to any empty square in his tackle zone.

What phase is the moon in? I'm not so sure you can Blitz every turn right now. Is it an even numbered turn or odd?
