Starting Lineup for Ogres

Post by matsu hantakage »

I'm starting a new Ogre team in a League, and my first match up will be Orcs.

I'm thinking one of the following setups

5 Ogres (700)
7 Snotlings (140)
1 Re-Roll (70)
9 FF (90)

5 Ogres (700)
7 Snotlings (140)
2 Re-Roll (140)
2 FF (20)

4 Ogres (560)
8 Snotlings (160)
3 Re-Roll (210)
7 FF (70)

The last one seems to be by far the most reliable, I can then use winnings to replace the inevitable dead snotlings?

What do people think? Any other suggestions? Is it worth having less RR for the 5th Ogre? I'm thinking RR are more reliable than an Ogre so they are the way to go.

The 3rd is probably the best bet to start with but you may have to just accept you're going to take a beating early on anyway. I assume it will be LRB5 you're playing with LRB5, the only question I have is, Does FF affect match winnings (haven't read the rules yet)? If not then lineup 2 could be an option although the lack of rerolls will hurt.

In LRB 5.0 you winning are equal to (D6 + your FAME Modifier) x 10000.

Your FAME is calculated at the start of the match, by rolling 2d6 and adding your FF. If it beats your opponent you get +1 Fame otherwise +0

So at best the higher FF gets you 10K on your winnings.

Hmm - in that case what is the point in spending 90K on FF when it will only ever (possibly) add 10K to your earnings. You would need to get lucky 9 times to pay it back.

So I could Field:

5 Ogres (700)
7 Snotlings (140)
2 Re-Rolls (140)
2 FF

or possibly better again:

4 Ogres (560)
8 Snotlings (160)
4 Re-Rolls (280)
0 FF

Our League was also thinking about using the 5 Free FF rule.

I think you just answered the question yourself then, I think the 4 rerolls will give you a chance at least.

if you go with 4 Ogres then don't purchase any replacement Snotlings until you have the full 6 Ogres. Sure you're going to end up packing a lot of loners and that might waste the MVP at times but if you get into a habit of buying more snots it'll take ages to save up for those last two Ogres.

Unfortunately, this doesn't help the team in the early stages. But it does let you get the team to a decent base quickly (6 Ogres, 4 Rerolls)
