Newbie asking Q's

Post by Sek »

Hi there

I have only just decided to start playing BB, nut I was wondering about a for things.

Would it be better to start off with buying the boxed set, or would it be better to buy 2 teams (I do have the living rulebook, but nothing else, no counters, cards or anything else I might need).

Another thing, about how big or the models - their bases diameter and their average height.

Thanks in advance

Sek

Well, you could start without the boxed set, if like. You got the rules and everything else can be self-made ... I have a self-made cardbox pitch, too, and the templates are easily self-made too. As for the dice, all you need is a couple of D6 and a D8.

Miniatures can be faked too, I have a paper proxy cut-out document, I could send you.

So ... you dont necessarily need a boxed set or anything, if you really want to go without it. It might take away a lot of fun, though, so if you like the game and want to continue playing (and perhaps attract other coaches), you should get a boxed set and additional team boxes (as far as your money allows). Check out ebay, you should find a couple of stuff there.

The bases are 28mm for regulars and 40 mm for big guys (if I remember correctly). Miniatures are 4-6 cm in height (roughly).

Welcome to the Jungle! :D

I've got an Excel Roster utility and a couple of cheatsheets made if you like: ARoninPhilosopher@yahoo.com

Ebay is a cheap-to-expensive source of minis. I think Tritex Games owner hangs out around here, also. Don't know how much shipping from England is....

D&D made some collectable, inexpensive minis that some gamestores are selling for under a dollar (U.S.) each for the commons and most uncommons.... I got the "Half-Ogre" for 35 cents USD, just outta curiosity, and cut the plastic sword off. Nice in a pinch!

Having said all that, I've "acquired" hundreds of minis over the past 10 years.... There is nothing like painting up a team and fielding it!

The tallest Blood Bowl (made for BB) mini I have is a treeman at 2 5/8 inches. Humans and Orcs are about 1 1/2 inches tall, Goblins about an Inch, and Snotlings below that (some are real tiny).

Hi Sek :)
I got your PM.

my advice to you would be to buy the box set. Sure you can make the counters and the boards. I started off that way and played the game for years using stand in models and home made pitches and counters, but having the real thing is far more impressive. If you can get a 2nd hand box set of ebay buy it from there as you will save lots in comparison to getting a brand new box from GW.

Tritex games are also a good source for buying Blood Bowl miniatures and parts. I have bought from them and can recomend them. http://www.tritex-games.co.uk A box set from Tritex will cost you about R540 excluding shipping (R600 from GW), a team will cost about R300 excluding shipping. There are a few miniature hobby shops in CT. Have you tried asking them if they have any old stock?

Unfortunately you are in CT and I am in JHB or I would gladly show you the ropes and give you the use of my teams :(
