Don't understand a particular rule or just need to clarify something? This is the forum for you. With 2 of the BBRC members and the main LRB5/6 writer present at TFF, you're bound to get as good an answer as possible.
Just thinking (which can be dangerous at the best of times )...
Scenario: A pass lands in an empty square in a player's tackle zone, who has Diving Catch and is from your own team. The empty square is the target of the pass, so it is accurate. If the player uses DC successfully, is this a Completion (for SPP)? Can you say the catcher is the 'intended receiver' in this case?
Also, if the player fails to catch the ball instead, does the ball bounce from the empty square, or from the catchers square?
No, doesnt work. If you target an empty square, then you dont target that DC player. So, as he is not the intended target of the pass, he cannot use the skill and hence cannot try to catch the pass.
If you are allowed to use the skill (targetting the player, but missing the pass AG roll) and the ball lands in an adjacent square, the player jumps into that square and tries to catch. If the catch roll fails, the ball scatters from that square (i.e. the catcher already is in the same square as the ball and that is the square from which the ball scatters).
I think you are describing a previous version of DC. I was talking about lrb 5, where the catcher can make the catch but stays in his original square...
In LRB 5.0 the player with DC may attempt to catch the ball.
He does not move from his original square, the pass does not count as accurrate, and it is not a completion (No SPP).

If he misses the DC then the ball will bounce from the intended landing square... not the DC square.
Not correct ... if he misses the catch than it is as if it had landed in his square and it would scatter from there.
A neat trick with Diving Catch is to throw to the square in front of him if it is a shorter range pass. If the throw is accurate the Diving Catch player will be able to catch it as if you had thrown it to him instead. In effect ... Diving Catch now gives a +1 bonus to certain passes for being accurate.

Ah! Thats what I hoped you could do... Does this mean you can get the SPP for a completion too?

No and here is the reason why:
The target square is the intended receiver so since the target of the pass was an empty square the pass doesn't count for giving SPPs. The catcher's square has to be the target of the pass for him to be the intended receiver.

So, you can use the diving catch trick to reduce the pass modifier by one (assuming that extra square changes the distance from, say, short to long), at the expense of the catcher having an increased modifier (inaccurate) at the cost of the completion SPP for the thrower?
Unless I got that wrong, i wouldnt want to use that except I just cant reach the catcher at all otherwise (distance more than long bomb)...

Nope the pass is still accurate because the player with Diving Catch treats the pass as if it had landed in his square when he tries to pass it. So you get the +1 to the pass if it is a shorter range to throw to the empty square behind the catcher and then you still get the +1 for it being accurate to the empty square to catch it.
