First, what is a LEGAL target???
When interperting rules you should stay away from make believe rules. There is no such thing as a legal target, period.
Besides, the rules are fine as they are. Making rules that will almost never happen, are unfair and extremely annoying wouldn´t improve BB.

Everybody is free to house rule what they like. The rule as it stands it simple and clear cut. If coaches feel they should be rewarded because the ball happens to come down on a mummy on the los and he spills it into the opposing half then fine. Tactical kicking increases vastly with the Kick skill, but where the ball ends up is simply luck, as is whether the opposing player catches it or not.Al the Rat wrote:Galak whilst the letter of the rules discounts Xynox's interpretation, I feel that as a house rule the idea has merit. It can for the right teams encourage far more aggressive defence. A kicking team playing the ball so that it drops close to the LOS where pickups and catches are under pressure of TZs, with the offchance that this pressure might spill the ball straight back to the kickers. I can see that this could lead to quite exciting games, and so should be given further thought before disregarded out of hand.
Adding clutter for no measureable impact other than personal tastes is best left to individual leagues.
Xynok asked "What is the official ruling?" and recieved the answer.

I believe I'm on record multiple times saying that whatever house rule you want to use is fine and I would NEVER argue AGAINST anyone's HOUSE rule. Heck, the MBBL2 is almost a king of house rules (okay, okay, the BOBBA league wins this one), so I was dismissing nothing out of hand .... in fact .....Al the Rat wrote:Galak whilst the letter of the rules discounts Xynox's interpretation, I feel that as a house rule the idea has merit. Hopefully Andy will clear up the LRB then.
So one way to look at it would be:
1)Place Ball where you are AIMING the kick.
2)Roll on kickoff table.
3)Roll D6, D8 to determine affects of wind, poor kick, etc. etc. Ball is still in the air.
4)Resolve kickoff table. Ball still in the air.
5)Bounce the ball or make a catch roll if needed.
So bottom line if there is a blitz! then I am essentially running under the ball before the receiving team can.
I think I get it now...

You got it ... my only correction here is its not one way to look at it ... its the official way to look at it (if you want to house rule different, that's fine) ... just wanted to reiterate that this is not an interpretation. The BBRC has been very clear on how this sequence works.tchatter wrote:Hopefully Andy will clear up the LRB then.

I agree, a complex house rule isn't needed for something that almost never happens. We played around with alternate touchback rules a lot like what have been suggested. After 4 seasons they never really mattered. Now we just use the "if it's out when it stops it's a touchback" rule and get on with our lives.

Thanks for the ruling. I understand it is more a matter of simplification than anything, and really have no problem with it. Still, MANY people in our League have asked the reasoning behind why a TB is awarded if it hits a Player, and I had no good explanation (please note we're Americans familiar with American Football). At least I can now say "because it is the official ruling."
That should go over well. Laugh.
Thanks!
