Catch & Diving Catch

Post by Buggrit »

Just a quick query really.

If you have both skills and the ball lands in a 'diving catch' square (i.e. not in your players square, but in your players tackle zone) if you fail the first catch, can you then re-roll it with the catch skill?

Also, if you aim the ball at an empty square (to diving catch it) if you do catch the ball would it be a completion (I'm assuming it would if the pass was accurate)

I'm assuming that the NO to #2 is because it was thrown to an empty square instead of to a player.

Yepp. For a completion the intended receiver has to catch the ball. As an empty square is no receiver this isnt a completion.

A Completion is only a Completion if it's caught by the intended receiver. It the ball is thrown to an empty square there is no intended receiver.

It's a silly question to me anyway. Why would you aim for an empty square as opposed to an occupied one? The only reason I can think of would be if a square closer would be a passing band closer. Make a GFI.

But if you couldn't GFI any further (I'm just arguing for Arguements sake here, but y'know) like you'd moved 5, GFI'ed one and then wanted to throw, but the range would be higher to the square with the guy in... then Yeah you might need to throw to an empty square and rely on the diving catch to get the ball. :)

But yeah I understand totally why it's not a completion.

I can think of 2 reasons:
1. to make the passing range shorter
2. to avoid a nasty interceptor

I thought that too. But it falls under 1. (decrease range) 4 squares away short is is decreased to 3 which is quick thus dumping off..... Same as saying you can throw 4 instead of 3....

Just drink the half glass already.:D
