Pass and Sure Hands are nice calls on Doubles, although I still think that block is the way to go for the first one.
Having said that with 2 skills (1 doubles) you can have an Ogre with Pass. Strong Arms which makes quite a formidible TTM machine, and he is even good enough to pass the ball if you can get it off the ground.
As for Pro - would leader not be a better choice first?

Ogres don't get General skills as Normal (i.e. Pro) so both Leader and Pro require Doubles unfortunately.Kakistos wrote:Leader is a Passing skill now in LRB5.matsu hantakage wrote: As for Pro - would leader not be a better choice first?
I'm going to use Ogres in a future league, so I'm looking at all the tips posted as well!
I think that after a few skills Ogres can become awesome players, for example here are Ogres who have gotten their 3rd skill
The Blocker: Normal Ogre Skills, Break Tackle, Block, Piling On (1 Double)
The Runner: Normal Ogre Skills, Break Tackle, +1AG, Sure Hands (1 Double, 1 Ag - I put this one down as I currently am lucky enough to have one in my league.)
The Passer: Normal Ogre Skills, Strong Arm, Pass, Break Tackle (1 Double)

Yes, both Pro and Leader require doubles for an Ogre to take.
The difference between them is that Leader is a guaranteed reroll (if the player stays on the pitch) per half. Pro can be used once per turn, but is successful only 50% of the time. I would actually prefer Pro over Leader.
Which skill you pick may also depend on the length of your league. If the league is short, then you may only get one double for all of your Ogres. Then Pro could be a better choice on doubles for the Ogre that you want to do TTM and block with, as it can be used for both. For the other Ogres, I would probably get Block first as others have mentioned.
I don't think I would get Leader.

My problems on using Pro on a TTM dedicated Ogre is that, when making a Throw Team Mate action it is probably the most important thing you will do that turn (or even that half). If you fail one of the two rolls that pro could stop (bonehead on a 2+ or the throw, also normally on a 2+), you want to re-roll it with a guarenteed re-roll not one that will fail 50 % of the time.
Also the leader re-roll can be used for anything, including the more difficult landing on a 4+. Obviously if you have a lot (6) of re-rolls already Leader is probably not worth it.

For all of you with mad Ogre tournament thoughts, next year, Death Bowl V in Montreal will be the 'Year of the Ogre'. Brian will come up with special house rules and prizes to encourage Ogre teams.
This was the 'Year of the Halfling' and 4 Fling teams were enticed by the sticky bun festival to show up. Miserable little flings, they steal our precious rerolls.....

this is exactly why pro would be better than leader in this situationmatsu hantakage wrote:My problems on using Pro on a TTM dedicated Ogre is that, when making a Throw Team Mate action it is probably the most important thing you will do that turn (or even that half). eg ogre fails bonehead use reroll can still use pro to attempt a reroll on a failed throw with leader your failed throw would then have to be taken ok its a 50 - 50 shot but id take that over the likelyhood of rolling 1 for bonehead and 1 for the throw

Ogres in a tourney.
I took ogres to my first tourney and won only one game. The dwarves with block were the bane of my trip. Brick and grotty would have helped, i used a standard roster with no stars, but in some practice games they didn't do much against speed teams or bashers. They did hold the Khmeri and nurgel though.

Tackle
The feeling in our league, which has one Ogre team, is that tackle is probably more valuable than block. It depends on the make up of your league, though. The ogres are hard enough to knock down even if they don't have block. Tackle makes them able to deal with blodge teams, of which our league has plenty.

I'm thinking of running ogres in a league, but have never seen them played before, so was looking for advice on an LRB 5 roster. This is the roster I'm looking at:
3xogres
9xsnotling
5xrerolls
1xapoth
The league has a decent mix of bashy and finesse, with maybe a few more bashy teams. Any suggestions?

Ogres in a tourny
Im taking my Ogre team to the Poo Bowl tourney in january and my roster is as follows:
5 Ogres x 140,000
7 Snotlings x 20,000
2 Re-rolls x 70,000
2 fan-factor x 10,000
Total = 1000,000
its a good all round roster helping me win many a game.
But i was suprised to see rosters only inc 2-3 ogres, is there something im missing here??
