Go For it and Leap
I know I have seen this somewhere before, but can you use go for it to give yourself an extra square of movement you need for a leap?

The only thing I can see is that in the description of leap it says:-
so I'd say no, but I expect someone with more rules knowedge than me will give the official ruling.
Code: Select all
"Making a leap costs the player two squares of normal movement"

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

Its on the list for the BBRC to clarify as its entirely vague.
Currently you can equally interept the rule two ways:
1) Normal movement does not include GFIs so no you cannot.
2) GFIs are a part of normal movement. So like a block, you roll for all GFIs BEFORE leaping. If you fail you fall down in the starting square.
In a few weeks, we'll know the official answer. For now the MBBL and MBBL2 leagues that I run, use answer 2.

I think "normal movement" sums it up. I can't think of anything else they had in mind when using the phrase "normal movement" if they weren't referring to GFIs.

Using "Leap":
If you leap over the Line of Scrimmage, it burns up 2 spaces of Movement...
So the way I'm getting this....if you choose to leap at the end of your Movement, and have no regular movement left....
You must roll "Go For it" twice, Before the Leap is tried.
If you fail you fall down and go Boom!

I don't follow that logic.
(a) It says "normal" movement
(b) You can use leap during a passblock which, logically, means passblocks are treated as "normal" movement (just out of turn normal movement)
Then what else can you possibly define as abnormal movement if not GFIs?
LRB 1.3 pg 20
Note that it does not state "roll GFI to gain extra Movement Allowance". You move the square first, then make the GFI. The GFI does not grant bonus MA.
There is only one exception to this rule: blitzes, and that is discussed immediately after the aforementioned paragraph.
I think going for it for a leap is an interpretation outside the letter of the rules.

Code: Select all
When a player takes any action apart from a Block, they
may try to move one or two extra squares over and
above the number that they are normally allowed to
move – this is called ‘going for it’.
Roll a dice for the player after they have moved each
extra square. On a roll of 1 the player trips up and falls
prone in the square that they moved to. On any other roll
the player makes the move without mishap. If the player
falls over then his team suffers a turnover and their team
turn ends immediately.

Logic? Hahaha. Surely you have me mistaken for someone else good sir.Marcus wrote:I don't follow that logic.
No that was more an impassioned plea than any sort of logic. You got me there

Well, I am certainly willing to see what everyone else thinks. I admit maybe it is stretching it a bit, but I would certainly make it a house rule that you can.

Disagree Ian .. PB is an out of sequence movement action so Leap can be used during it.ianwilliams wrote:And as you can only leap when "taking any action" you can't leap in a PB.
If anything counts as abnormal movement, its PB.
Ian
Its on the list though, so right or wrong we'll know by the end of the month.

I hope they do, and stop using undefined terms like "normal movement."GalakStarscraper wrote:Disagree Ian .. PB is an out of sequence movement action so Leap can be used during it.

I would have said that Pass Block was not normal movement but it would be nice to have all this clarified.
At the moment we play that you can only leap during an action in your turn and may not use GFIs but it would only take a look at this thread for some players to get ideas.

The short answer is "no", but it is a qualified "no" because there are odd ways of interpreting the question which could justify the answer "yes".
