Grab and Fend Modifications

Post by bouncergriim »

Just want to see what the feel for this idea is out there. I think grab is strange that it doesn't work on blitzes but I can see balance rules for that, but I was thinking of a way to modify it and fend... Here goes:

Add to GRAB the ability to force your opponent to follow up when he blocks or blitzes you. You cannot keep him from following up like fend, but you can force him to even if you are knocked down. (I like this change and think that it would make sense for the skill, I am just not sure about balance

Secondly on FEND, make it cancel grab kind of like a weaker sidestep but without the follow up allowed. However, having fend would not allow you to side step (this is just kind of put out there, I don't see this change to be as useful/important as my GRAB modification)

Grab can't be used on Blitzes purely because of the interaction it could have with Frenzy. Crowd pushes would become almost unavoidable.

I like the skill idea presented above though. It would make a good skill in its own right.

but frenzy and grab are mutually exculsive in LRB5. So the crowd push thing is not an issue.

Beat me to it.

Grab not being usable on blitzes was to prevent it from comboing with Frenzy, JJ made some changes at the last minute, one of which was to make it so Frenzy and Grab could never be taken by the same player ever.

So technically there is no longer a good reason to keep it from working on blitzes. Maybe something for consideration in LRB 6.0.

Boys, boys ... don't get overexcited. The problem is with Grab on one player and Frenzy on another used in tandem.

For this to work you would habe to have a target 3 squares from the edge in a position where they can be pushed within two spaces of the edges and be adjacent to a frenzy player. You also need to have a grab player that can do the original blitz.

Is this really that big a concern?

Yes.

I've tried it ... it is AMAZINGLY easy to set these plays up (especially with Norse with 5 players with Frenzy). You blitz ... use Grab to toss the player into the right square and use a Block Action to Frenzy him into the crowd. It might sound like its tough ... its not.

@ Galak,

What do you think about Grab also having defensive capabilities of being able to force a follow up.

I think that is an interesting idea. Not sure if the skill needs it .. but it is interesting.
