Jump up and a Blitz Action
Jump up states that the player may stand up for free if the player declares any action other than a Block Action. If the player declares a Block Action then the player must make a AG roll at +2.
Now Block Action in the rule description is clearly Capitaled and italiced so it seems clear that that is the only action the rules require you make a AG roll for in order to perform as a Blitz Action is listed as a seperate action on the page 7 list of Actions.
So no need to make a AG roll when jumping up and blitzing? Even when the player you intend to block with your Blitz Action is standing adjcent?

IMHO this rules tweak (the roll to block) is one of the few truly unnecessary tweaks in LRB5. The little ground won by balancing things (that not really needed balancing anyway, bar maybe the old Mummy issue) washed away by introducing an extra element in the game mechanics.
Please note that I'm all for LRB5 in general before you reply to my rant. But I kind of feel the same when I buy a Sports Centre membership card for £45 at the start of the term at the Leeds Uni gym, then have to pay 50p everytime I use the facilities anyway. For god's sake, can you please charge me a hundred in the first place and not make me bring a bloody pocketfull of pennies everytime? I could go higher than a hundred even to be rid of all the fuss.
I'd like to see this one leave the rule book. How about limiting the skill to AG3 and up (like mighty blow)? Most of the other things are brilliant.

JJ said all skills limited to certain minimum stats be removed from the LRB. Not an option.Odium Khan wrote:I'd like to see this one leave the rule book. How about limiting the skill to AG3 and up (like mighty blow)? Most of the other things are brilliant.
Actually I like the rule. Clearly from this thread there are folks willing to take the skill on AG 2 players which is great. We didn't want Jump Up/Piling On Mummies (and their like) to return. This pretty much solves it following the rules JJ gave us.

Old Jump Up was far better (but then so were Traits).
Tbh, I'm like Zephard. I've failed the roll so many times with my Norse Blitzer (more fails than passes) that I've given up trying to use it to hit people.
Woe is the Norse Blitzer.

If this ruleset were indeed bloodier that the previous versions you wouldn't need a nerfing rule applied to it. Those Mummies would be gone after a short time.GalakStarscraper wrote:Actually I like the rule. Clearly from this thread there are folks willing to take the skill on AG 2 players which is great. Blocking is more bloody not fouling which was definitely made less bloody. Overall effect was more buff to blocking than the reduction to fouling. End result ... more bloody ... but not for Piling On Mummies getting fouled.Snew wrote:If this ruleset were indeed bloodier that the previous versions

I understand why it was done (jump up being nerfed), just don't agree with the reasoning why it was done (loss of traits).Lycos wrote:Whilst I prefered the old version of jump up, it was a trait, so I can see why a kick back was introduced. With the demise of traits it means more players have access to it and if you left it as it was then it would be a fair bit more powerful.
