Double 5's on a Dwarf Blitzer

Post by kano »

Just rolled double 5s in my league for my dwarf blitzer. Not sure what to take on him. I am thinking plus MV, but not convinced this may be the best option since it is a doubles roll also.

Here is what I have so far on the team:

3 Blockers with Guard

1 Blocker with Dodge

2 Blockers with nothing

1 Slayer with Mighty Blow

1 Slayer with nothing

1 Deathroller with Block (doubles roll)

1 Runner with Block, Kick Off Return, Strip Ball

1 Runner with Block, Dump Off, NoS

1 Blitzer with Mighty Blow

1 Blitzer with Dodge (Double 5's)

He already has dodge, and cant think of a skill that would be better than the movement. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I second movement, That is the one thing dwarves lack. Another competent 6mv ball hander will really help the dwarves.

I would take MA6. The movement you can use any turn but Jump up only when you are down.

I'd take +MA, but only as he already has Dodge. Otherwise doubles for me would be a chance to get Diving Tackle on a (relatively) mobile player.

Oh and I would have said the same on your Blocker who got a double.

Diving tackle on a MA 4 player is not so good :) Dodge is great as it keeps them standing longer. Most* opposing players do not have Tackle, and even the ones that do, don't usually target the dwarven blockers.

any..on to the origianl..double 5..on a blitzer with dodge...take the MA. I've occasionally taken +AV instead...but dwarves need speed.

Gortex. I agree diving tackle on a 4 mover is "not no good". It's a good thing we are talking about a move 5 blitzer instead of a move 4 one then.

Even if the Blitzer didn't have dodge, in the LRB 5.0 I would take +1 move on a Dwarf Blizer even on 5,5.

If I'm paying 30k in TV for a skill, I don't want that skill taken away by as common a skill as tackle. This goes especially true for the Dwarf blitzer who will get great benefit in my mind from a Movement boost.

Move boost all the way.

Leap would be blast! :o

Although, if you'd rather focus on winning the games you play, go with the MV boost.

I was thinking on the Dodge Blocker also, next skill taking Stand Firm as his next skill. Right now, I have been putting him on the LOS opposite the opponents BG. He has been doing a pretty good job on them so far, and I figure with SF, he would be even better. I was thinking I maybe should have taken Sidestep instead of Dodge, but this is working out good. If one of my guys that already has Guard rolls a doubles, I think I would try Side Step. Guard Sidestep is one of my favorite combos in the game......

@ Gortex & Mad Jackel:

Actually I did say Diving Tackle was good on a MA4 player. And I meant it. Diving Tackle is my first choice for blockers who roll a double as their first skill roll. I want two (never had more than that, not sure if it's needed).

The way I see it, you can only blitz one guy. Tackle is ok for restricting movement on an AG3 Player who relies on Dodge but isn't going to tie up an AG4 player. But forcing an opponent to consider a 50% dice roll with no skill roll (Elf/Gutter Runner plus Dodge) is a lot different from the 2+ with reroll that they're used to. It's very disconcerting, not mention turnover causing and reroll burning.

In addition to their actual success at forcing a failed dodge, they can have a large effect on an opponents positioning and turn order. A lot of the players you want to be standing them besides are low AV, low ST or both. Hitting them with a Block/Tackle guy can be a big enough worry for them not to move within your range or to move them away sooner than would otherwise be optimal.

So that's why I think Dwarfs need Diving Tackle. Now as to why I think Blockers are a good choice for this. Firstly they start with Tackle, one half of the combo you want. Two, they're common. Tasking two of them to this develoment path doesn't stop you getting enough Guard, Stand Firm, Mighty Blow etc to win the blocking War (as Dwarf sides need to do). Three, although MA5 would be better (both for Standing Up and also to stand next to the guy you want to be next to), MA5 comes on a more expensive player, one you only have two of, and one who you might want to be doing something else (AG3 and MA5 not being too common on a Dwarf side). Also about the standing up part. If you're on the floor, chances are they are as well (obviously excepting succesful Team/Pro reroll use) and they're next to them. You're back on them before they can stand up, you probably don't need to use more than 1 move left over.

I believe you guys are good Dwarf coaches (from your posts and reputation). Almost certainly you are right and I am wrong. But I guess I disagree with you on this, Deathrollers and probably many more things we haven't begun to discover...

I agree with you PubBowler, diving tackle is a great skill on dwarves in a league with many dodgy teams. You don't actully use it that much but that's mainly due to opponents not daring to dodge away.

MV ... easily. Dwarfs need MV.

I would take DT on a MV 4 player too, though only ones like Dwarfs who come with Tackle. Not on a Blitzer though .. you can't afford to have him grounded for any reason.

No one is right or wrong...it's all just opinions. DT seems to suit your style of play, so it is a good skill for you and you seem to have a plan to use it effectively. For me, other skills are more important for the way I play dwarves. I might, on a new dwarf team one day, try DT on a few blockers--I can see how it might work. But from my experiences, I prefer to keep as many of my slow dwarves standing as is possible. Different coaches, different styles of play--no real right or wrong...it's all about the enjoyment of the game.

DT should not be given to the blitzer - unless he was already given tackle. DT is great skill on the longbeards because they already have tackle so it really rocks against agility teams.

Since he's got dodge already I'd take the MA too.
