Do you have to take Journeymen?

Post by Aliboon »

From the rulebook, it says you may take Journeymen if you have less than 11 players. Therefore can you choose not to take a journeyman so that you get the extra inducements instead?

The only time I can see this really being worth it is so that you can get a secret weapon starplayer for a particular game, especially if you're a dwarf, but it could also be a viable tactical option if it would if you knew who you were playing next and by not having the journeyman, would reduce your opos inducements so they couldn't get a particular inducement they would otherwise have been able to afford.

Am I right in my thinking?

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

You're right, you don't have to take Journeymen. Another good reason not to take one is when you know you're gonna be the underdog next game and don't have all positionals.

I once did this with my Orc-team with the Tackle-Blitzer being MNG. As the next game was against an overdog-woodelves-team I didn't take a Journey-Lineman and got myself a Blitzer-Mercenary with Tackle instead (who died on a GFI into the Endzone for the leading Touchdown  ).

Hehe. One of my opponents did that with Amazons. Got an Amazon blitzer mercenary for a game. Got injured in the beggining of the first half, and got the MVP. He got 0 SPPs all game (nothing worked for him), so the mercenary getting the MVP was just the end of a really bad game for him.

Ah yes-this is what my latest opo did-i couldn't understand why he didn't take a beastman journeyman as he was down to 10 players. Instead he hired a merc CW-probably the better option as otherwise he could only afford to induce a Bloodweiser Babe or extra card.
