Got a great idea and/or proposal for BloodBowl?

The 12th Player

Post by voyagers_uk »

I have always fondly remembered the Stadium Rules JKL brought to us that we amended and had lots of fun with, but more and more I felt that we were missing out on a lot of carnage because we assumed that the facility itself was all that could provide enjoyment/mayhem.

People are looking at the KO Table as ways to increase the fun.

But the FANS are the ones you have to please / work with.

My idea is as follows

You blitz a guy stupidly standing on the sidelines and knock him into row ZZ, your part in this is over. The Fans however have a more vital part to play. They could kill him for being so dumb and you would get nothing from it in terms of spp's (oh yes I realise that you benefit from having him off the pitch and a numerical advantage, but that is just one side of the story)

The Fans travel around and follow their team, it is what fans do. Surely the fans would increase in skill at the things they do as much as the players do.

For Every Casualty that the Fans cause they get 1spp. Using the same levels of "Improvement" (i.e. 6; 16; 31 etc) the Fans could gain a skill or three...

this would make some fans especially feared and has nothing to do with FF or TV but more with the success of those fans which is completely random.

Skills that could be taken

Mighty Blow - +1 to Injury
Piling On - reroll Injury
Disturbing Presence -1 to pass and catch within the wide zones
Safe Throw

plus others such as a play on Fan Favourite called "The Chant" aka "The Kop End" where they would give +1 to KO rolls etc

there is a lot that could be done with this idea. But I couldnot wait to throw it out there. I know some leagues scupulously keep stats on crowd activity and this could be a logical progression.

as anyone else used this or something similar.

A stadium is just a building - the fans are the heartbeat of the team. :P

I'm liking it. I haven't thought out fans properly but this is good inspiration. So far all I've got is Hooligans (+1 to win invasion type rolls) and Loyalty (avoid -1 FF by rolling 6).

I must admit that the more I think about the Fans as a unit, the more that your opponent would come to fear their input in key games.

The only problem I can see with this suggestion is that if it's not covered by FF or TV, it's almost like giving a bonus to the more experienced teams (the ones more likely to have SPP fans), and as we all know, having experienced teams nowadays is something that's not encouraged.

and having any kind of imbalance is just so wrong thses days......

How would you tie it to one or the other without also being advantageous to experienced teams - who have more of both?

I'm seeing the possibility of a set of options being available and some event triggering the addition of attributes or a check to the existing ones.

Thinking inside the box rather than where I'll be going with it, perhaps FF could be traded for skills/attributes - maybe even forcibly as the BB ICF refuse to pay at the gate and just turn up anyway.

There is no guarantee whatever "Experience" level a team is that they would benefit from this rule. I am never one to work out the math of a situation like this, however the odds are the same for each crowd surfer to be injured.

Tying it to FF or to TV would make it a benefit for the big boys again.

It could perhaps inversely be tied to FF or TV and perhaps have some inducement effects. One option might be playing/losing/winning against a team with higher/lower FF/TV being an effect that triggered some fan stuff.

Also, just remembered another fans-related addition that I have which is Snotling Fan Club (sure someone else came up with that first) that my league awards at the end of the year to the team with the lowest average gate during the season. It's a +2 to cheering/violence related kick off results.

But the experienced teams wil have had more oppotunity to crowd surf players, therefore their crowds are likely to have more SPP.
And if it's not reflected in the teams strength somehow (and FF/TV were just top of the head suggesions), it's a bonus to the big boys, and therefore under the current rules, a Bad Thing(TM).

Personally, I couldn't care less, but others will moan because it's "not fair".

Not sure how you wok out that tying it to TV is a bonus?
If my TV goes up by 2 because my fans have Mighty Blow (as an example), that just gives my opponent more/takes away from my inducements, and puts me closer to the Spiriling Expenses ceiling.

I would rather it not be tied like that, but can see the logic in that it only comes into effect with a TV difference of less than 500k. Grudges between teams fans is always fun.

OIC what you mean now. I assumed(wrongly) that you were looking at this from a TV benefit perspective and not costs. Costs I agree with......
