bitMonkey wrote:Azoth, sure the rules are clear. This was an idea for a house rule.

An advantage of such a house rule would be that the list of events that cause a turnover (LRB5, page 7) could be simplified. Item 3 could be merged into item 2 quite easily. Personally, I find that very appealing. Less is more, as they say.

Sure, the cause and effects of picking up the ball would change, but not in a significantly bad way, methinks.
Simplifing that would be good... But the effect is still that certain teams goes better.

And the logical things is that a pass is a full action, where the ball still is flying, even if you don't catch the ball to start with. While picking up the ball, it certanly touches the ground.

If we we're from the US, I don't think we would have this discution, as it is more of a herritage from American Fotball (or is it?) But maybe not.

I still think it will be better keeping the original rules on this to keep the game more balanced.

(But maybe we should discuss that more elsewhere, and in our own language)

All the Snewing aside...

Theorethically speaking, exactly what teams would benefit from this house rule? I don't see why elves would, since they are the most likely to succeed a pick up anyway.

Yes, thats why. If a bashy team fails a pickup, the people around them will have a much less chance to succed, but if an good ag team.

I see this tactics, assmble a load of players around the ball. (And this isn't hard for elfs)
Do anyother sure things. Pick up the ball, fumble it around a bit.

Does makeing it much harder for the foe to break offense from elfs.

Something like that...

to be fair a mutated team i.e. player with Big Hand has the best chance of ever picking the ball up when surrounded, and Elf in two tackle zones is still looking at 5+ to pick it up, which is why if you have players to catch the bounce who can still move and it wasn't a turnover this would be a stronger tactic and one as an experienced elf coach i would exploit to open a can of Touchdown Whoopass on anyone who hadn't secured the ball properly.

this should deffo stay as is.

Ah, stoopid Brynolf dinnae think o dat...

So the only reason to house rule this would be to streamline the rules a bit. And maybe give a small + to non-bashy teams (which can't only be a bad thing, mind).

No I wouldn't mind as long as I play an agile team.

But...

So how many pick up attempts will be allowed? Say the ball has multiple TZs on it. A guy runs in hoping not to pick it up but to fail and have it scatter away from the TZs. The next guy then runs in, scoops it up and zips away with it. Bad stuff there.

If you DO, do this make sure the coaches declare their passes and handoffs before they start moving on the off chance that first sacrifical pick-up works and he's stuck. LOL

One, of course.

Well, he had to be there in the first place to attempt to catch it bouncing about. This was not a suggestion of making failed Pick ups non-TO in general, but just streamlining it with the Passing rules.
