Amazons

Post by datalorex »

My friend is trying really hard to play Amazons, but with no luck. He wants to know what team he could play where he won't get slaughtered but will be a fair team for him to play. He wants a teaching game. I'm thinking Khemri. What do you think?

Undead - Khemri are too one dimensional

Orcs Orcs Orcs or Orcs.

They dont come in the box game for no reason. If, and I dont wish to sound rude, your friend is struggling to pick the game up tactically, then Orcs are perfect. They have good ST4 access, some basic block, surehands and even pass if you want it. AV9 pretty much everywhere. They have a big guy for hitting, Gobo access for some variation and OTS. You can play Orcs many different ways. I have seen Miloquaiser use them with 4 Goblins and a troll very effectively in a tournament.

Personally I dont go near gobos or the troll, just stick to bashing and driving with them.

That or Undead as Voyagers said. As for Khmeri, I'd say no.

Given the mix of our league, Datalorex, if he is looking for a unique-r expression that is tough and competitive then Dwarves (I've still got a box unopened downstairs) or Chaos Dwarves (out of those)....

Undead never worked for me (and will look terribly like Necros w/mummies instead of weres) but were killer-diller in on-line and ftf tournies in the past....

Maybe he can get Lizardmen to work (although you've seen the possible frustration level)....

With Chaos Dwarves, Lizardmen, and to a certain extent Undead, he will have to balance the "unsurvivability" of Hobgoblins, Skinks and Skeletons with the survivable toughness of his other players....

Not to dissuade from the other helpful posts... heck, I don't care if everyone plays Orcs... or if he plays two human teams... they're very versatile (he's doin' quite well w/o an Ogre!; what if he had one?!)....

Thanks for the help guys, but I think I didn't make myself clear. Sorry. What I MEANT to say is that he wants to play with Amazons, and he wants to know what team he could play against that won't slaughter him. I beat him 4-0 with orcs last night after tieing with him 1-1 with the orcs the first time the first time we played ealier last week.

I was thinking his Amazons could handle Khemri without it being an uneven match. (Obviously I wouldn't play Dwarves vs his Amazons and a rookie Vampire team would be too easy to beat).

What do you think? What are some other teams Amazons could handle?

When I played the 'Zons I seemed to have a good record against most of the bashy teams (dwarves excepted). He should be able to do well against Chaos. Khemri might be an ok game, but with a few POWs, MB and AV7, it could turn into a nightmare.

I reckon the 'Zons are one of the better teams anyway, just tell your mate to play them bash, with extra dodging only done as the last resort if the drive has stalled.

He played yet another new Amazon team tonight and I played a new Khemri team. I didn't get a single casualty on him yet he ended up with one linewoman dead, one linewoman with Ag-1, and one Blitzer out next game. LOL. The game ended with a 1-1 tie. He tied it on the last play by making a one die block, 3 dodges, a pickup, and 2 go for its. He was excited about that.

Sounds like your friend has my luck with the dice. Tell him the sadistical god Nuffle just loves him.

I think with his luck, or let me rephase that, form my own experience, he should just quit playing BB now, or not worry about the CAS and just enjoy playing with lots of it. I do. On an average game more than half the CAS done to my team is done by my dice. Yet sometimes I make some miracle plays that just make me want to play another game, even though I just took 2 deaths and a -1 ST injury.

Amazons are one of the best, if not the best team at low TV. Getting 4 blodgers right out of the gate is huge. Plus cheap RR and cheap linewomen. But as the TV goes up, and other teams get tackle, their low AV catches up with them. Dwarves, and maybe CD are the only real bad matchups at low TV.

Amazons are a very dangerous team ^^ not only avi 3 and av 7, they have no Big Guys or something stronger... it´s very hard. When he is losing, he should buy a medic, dodge more often or play another team. I play fragile teams with my heart and I won two tournaments in a row (Skaven and Pro Elves, now I am in the quarterfinal with Norse). It isn´t easy, one Game can reduce your Team to 6 or less players.

If you want to coach him, play Elves or Necros, they are very hard to outcome if you don´t know your team.

And... the more player dies, the lower is your tv and this is the best thing you can have as fragile player :>
