Tourney Team Dilemma

Post by ClayInfinity »

Am entering an LRB5 1.1M resurrection tournament and am unsure what race to take.

My best race to play are dwarves but I also have an orc, human, pro-elf and an undead team.

The 1.1M may be spent on skills as well, but a limit of one skill per player.

So, of those 5 races, what do you guys feel I should take?

The added dilemma of being able to pick skills makes it very interesting!

Please vote in the poll and perhaps add your suggested rosters below.

Tourney is next week :)

I'd choose what you prefer to play: which is a Dwarf side.

But the skill set is good for this too as a Dwarf team normally has money left over in 110 tournie side.

A suggested roster:

80 1 Runners
160 2 Blitzers
180 2 Troll Slayers
420 6 Blockers
160 4 Rerolls

This leaves a 100 for skills. So Block on a Runner and four Guard (Both Blitzers and two Blockers).

Most other teams are going to have a shortage of skills and Guard is great for that, combined with Block on your entire team.
One runner is controversial (and I don't want the thread to be hijacked) but if you take a second you really need to give him block and that costs you a Guard.

I normally play an Orc team, but if you like playing Dwarves then you should take them, nobody can say they are not a good tournament team.

This is a great suggestion, but I would take that second runner and NOT give him block. The non-block one would be the one you use to pick up the ball and the one with block could be the one you hand off to in the midfield. I would drop a troll slayer for the runner and pick up 1 FF. In the tournament format you are playing, you won't see too many large players because people will want money to spend on skills.

Anything but Dwarves!

Maybe my self interest would be better served by you playing Dwarves so you won't at the next tourney we are both at!

I would take the second runner as well. Most times dwarves need to have all of their AG3 players. If you take a skill on the second runner, I would take Kick Off Return, it will help you get the ball safe into your cage.

I have a dwarf team on Fumbbl, and in our LRB5 table top league. Ive gotten so used to KOR on my LRB5 dwarf team, its kind of a pain not having it. It really helps the slow teams like the dwarves.

Play the team you are used to playing, and go out and win!!!!!!!!

But the classic Undead team is a blast to play with as well.......:D

I can't tell you what team YOU should take, everybody has a different style. But I would take orcs, and spend skills to give the black orcs block and the blitzers guard.

4 bli 320
4 bob 320
1 thr 70
2 gob 80
2 rr 12
1 ff (or ac or cl)

That's 920k. That gives you enough money leftover for 9 skills. I'd go with Block on the Black Orcs, Guard on the Blitzers, and Kick Off Return on the Thrower, or Leader, your choice. Either way, that's a nasty lineup.

I don't have a problem with people taking two runners, it's a very popular choice, and I reckon it is 6 to 5 and pick em.
But I think Troll Slayers are worthwhile in tournaments. They are great aginst St4 players, especially with a Guard nearby. Their Frenzy is very useful for side line pushs and a Dwarf team needs numerical advantage. Lastly, they are targets, and I am happy for them to be.

I´d go for Orcs. For the love of god, don´t play Dwarves. :D

Leader on a Thrower is such a cheap RR in this system, especially with Orcs.

Thanks for the advice people...

I am now down to Orcs or Dwarves...

But the results of the poll have Elves as #2... yet nobody has any roster suggestions... is that because people just dont want to see more orcs or dwarves in tourney's or is it because they have a legit view that Elves would do OK...

I would take the Pro Elves. I play them too and I know, there are no better catcher then the one of the Pro Elves.

Take:
6 Linemen --> 360k
1 Thrower --> 70k
3 Catcher --> 300k
1 Blitzer --> 110k

2 Rerolls --> 100k
Fan Factor 3 --> 40k

Alltogether 980k

If you want more Skills, you can put down the Fanfactor or kill one Reroll (I don´t need 2 Rerolls in an Elvish Team in my Life...). Good Skills would be Safe Throw or Leader for the Thrower, Dodge for the Catcher or Block for the Linemen

I don't know how people play Pro Elves. They are so crunchy and expensive

It´s Easy, Grab your iron-hard hairstyle and run away like a little giiiirl XD Nah, Pro Elves live and die with their pass play, with nerves of steel, catch and agi 4 they have the best catcher in this whole damn game. So take your catcher, run with them into the enemys area and then, if one of them is still standing next round, pass the ball to him and make a touchdown. Thats all. And if your thrower has safe throw, you can ignore almost every enemy betweeen the thrower and catcher. You must only protect the ball until you can throw, and believe me, it´s harder then it sounds.
