Side Step or Fend?

Post by GreedySmurf »

I like to map out the next skill up or two for the positional players on my team, and with my new Norse team (LRB 5.0 version), I'm in a slight quandary about a particular skill selection.

One of my Runners is at the decision point having gotten his second skill last game, He now has Sure Hands & Dodge (always the 1st two skills on Norse Runners IMO), but now I just can't decide between Fend and Side Step:?:

If it makes a difference I am playing a running game with this Norse team, I actually started without a Thrower, but with both Runners. Four games into the league no regrets thus far.

Also the league is reasonably balanced but leaning towards bashy, out of 18 coaches, there are 2 Orc's, 2 Norse, Nurgle, Big Hats, 2 Dwarves, & Lizards, + 2 Skaven & 2 Elves, + 2 Humans & 2 Necro,

I personally would go with Side Step. There is a reason it got voted most annoying skill!

Sidestep - St3 blodging side steppers are the best players in the game, without any question IMHO. With sure hands and ag3, this guy will rule and be a TD machine (until his av7 catches up with him  ). He would also be my ball hunter on D. I would sleep with his mini under my pillow!

Well, I might have went with Pro instead of sure hands since it would have helped with Dauntless rolls as well as pick ups, but that's a different argument.

I would go with SS too. It will keep him alive longer and he gets to go where you want him.

Blodging, Side Stepping Fenders are better.

I would take sidestep too, it is always too funny to stop one player one field before touchdown zone, letting the enemy make the last field needed :)

Side Step is very effective for a cornerback.

And ST4 blodging sidesteppers are better than both of those.

Looks like Sidestep is definitely the consensus then. 8) Apart from taking the +1 Str, which when I discover how to roll double 6's on demand will be my first choice every time

Thanks for the opinions guys, I think I shall go with SS.

[Here's hoping he survives tonights game to give him a shot at taking the skill - I'm playing Nurgle, and my luck with casualties has been very good thus far, so I'm hoping it doesn't turn around tonight.]

And this guy trumps that:
Chaos Warrior 5539 Block, Dodge, Side Step, Guard ;)

This can go on and on.

Back in the early days of rookie big guys ('96?), one guy in my league developed a Troll with Block/Dodge/Stand Firm/Jump Up. Man, that was annoying.

he was hated!
