Blodge and Stand Firm on DE Blitzer

Post by virre »

This combination have worked strangely well. The last game played, he did score two goals, by not being able to being downed by chaos. (Although the fact that all four of the chaos warriors of the foe did end up injuried or dead. Acctualy that was a bit strange to, I did cas. while the Chaos team passed the ball, I didn't finish one pass)

But was Stand Firm and Blodge a bad idéa or a good one? I feel it works quite well, but...

--->I'd prefer Side Step rather than Stand Firm, since your team value is a point higher with Stand Firm, as it can only be taken on doubles.

In previous rules sets, Stand Firm prevented you from falling over on a failed Dodge, which made it definately worth it. These days, on an Elf, not so much. It means you've passed up on a chance to get Guard.

Yeah as that was a Double skill I would have given him Guard as well. Then Side Step.
Not a bad choice - but others out there.

I agree.
Sidestep also prevents crowd surfing, and can be even more annoying then Stand Firm, as you can reposition (although in PBEM this is less effective). On a double roll, I would have preferred Guard, or maybe Mighty Blow.

Cheers!

I would have given guard, followed by sidestep. This players are a pain in the ass.

Me too. Guard is a great skill for line elves, but it's too "passive" for the Blitzers, so they get Mighty Blow.

I personally would have taken Grab I mean slamming your opponent to were you want him to go is always good and If you need to both Grab & Side Step cancel each other out

I also would have taken mighty blow. Side Step is a beautiful thing. Beautiful.

This debate has convinced me that Stand Firm has been nerfed TOO hard; Side Step seems simply to be better now, or is there something I'm missing?

Side Step is better than Stand Firm. But the main reason for this isn't the nerfing to SF, it's the counter skills.

Side Step is countered by Grab and is the only skill that is countered by Grab (Fend is partially countered). Where as SF is countered by Juggernaut, which in addition to having it's push effect, it also counters Block, Wrestle and Fend.

Additionally, Frenzy players can't take Grab, but they can take Juggernaut.

Grab just isn't as good a skill as Juggernaut. Especially as Grab is very much an LoS type of skill, while Side Step tends to be a sidelines dominator. Juggernaut on the other hand is a skill that requires a blitz to use, so you can always aim it at a Stand Firm player if you need to.

imo Grab is pretty much a failure at stopping Side Step, but Juggernaut works in stopping Stand Firm. Grab just needs a boost of some kind to make it a more desirable 2nd choice skill - instead of 3rd or 4th choice as it is now.

I think it's worth spending a doubles on Side Step for GS players, but not worth spending it on Stand Firm for GA players. The Strength category has a lot of very powerful skills that are better choices than SF, but the agility category now pretty much only has Dodge, Side Step and Diving Tackle (with some weak arguments for Jump Up).

Yes, sidestep has a lot for it, when I think about it, but not as this guy has been played. He also is the best scorer in my team, mostly by the stand firm skill. (Strangley enough)

(Although he also is amoung the best cas. creaters of the season. Alright, the SPP should be better spread, but...)

btw on a Lineman, yes Guard is double skill, absolutley. Not on blitzers though. The MV 7 can be better used.

This debate is a little redundant - beacuse on of the DE's best advantages is the 4 Blitzers.

Mightly Blow + Tackle? OR Dodge + Side Step?

Here's my final answer! BOTH! Yep one Blitzer should have MB + Tackle the other Dodge + SS. (Or with double guard then SS)
Guard is a great skill for line elves, but it's too "passive" for the Blitzers
But on a DE team your blitzers are more passive as you have the Witch Elves to do your traditinal blitzing roll.

Just my 4p.

Or take Nerves Of Steel. He'll be a real pain for your opponents then. Add Side-Step and you have a guy who's always a threat when close to the end zone.
