That's a large part of it when dealing with an Ogre, but in truth there's almost no situation where I'd take +AV if my guy is already AV9. The % gain of protection just isn't worth the 30K TV increase, MA or a Doubles skill is normally a better use of the roll.Nem0 wrote:Thats exactly why. AV 9 is already very hard to break, and not going down on the both down result on the die will probably save you more often than the increased AV will. Also, its bette to not go down at all, than to get knocked down and have to make the really stupid roll just to stand up again.
For example Black Orc Blockers, Dwarf Linemen, Chaos Warriors, Nurgle Warriors, Saurusesesess, Mummies and AV9 Big Guys all benefit from the +MA more than the +AV imo.
I probably would take it if the player had rolled 2 ST/AG increases or a fist full of doubles & MA increases though.

Basically, AV 10 is broken 8.3% of the time, and AV 9 is broken 17.6% of the time.
When a 2 die block is thrown at you by a player with block, you are knocked down 75% of the time. With block you are knocked down 55% of the time.
So an AV 9 player with block has his armor broken 9.6% of the time when he is blocked, compared to 6.2% of the time with AV 10 and no block. It may seem like a lot, but even if your Ogre is blocked 16 times in a match, it would only result in one more armor break every 2 games, on average.
For in exchange for having your armor broken 3 more times out of 100 knockdowns, the Av 9 player with block causes fewer turnovers (3% chance vs 11% chance) and knocks blockless players down more often (75% of the time vs. 55% of the time.) If your ogre can throw 16 blocks in a match, that is 1.3 fewer turnovers and 3.2 knockdowns compared to not having block.
Finally, the new Claw skill negates the armor increase, but a both down die will never result in your armor being broken again.
So all in all, block helps the Ogre do everything he needs to do (hit and be hit... not just being hit) which is why I would choose it.

Another vote for Block. Remember if you get a 2nd doubles, given your S-only access, you can still go to town! On a 6-4, take +MA, every time! MA6 Ogres don't sound nearly as awesome as they are, but they're still not as awesome as Ogres with Block.

What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

And if you ever get doubles on a Snotling -- Break Tackle.

They'll be rentals though, so all of you can get a similar page in the future. (Are we not supposed to say this in the forums? whatever...)
