Block always "active"?
A friend of mine pointed out that skills can only be used once per action. He wants to know if a player gets blocked a second time, can he use his block skill that second time if with the first block a both down was thrown.
I said he doesn't activelty use the skill in an action, but he just has it and can use it multiple times. I read the LRB and the 2002 handbook, but I can't find anything about it.
I argued that the same thing can be said about guard. If a guard uses his skill to assist a block, he can't use it to assist another block. He agreed that that would be the consequence.
Can anyone point me to the specific text in the rulebook that says block, guard, dodge(when throwing blocks) etc. are always "active"?

The way I see it, getting blocked is not an action. Move, Blitz, Pass etc. are actions. Getting pushed around is not. Which implies that block and guard can be used many times per turn.

But that would mean you couldn't use block and guard when being blocked, because skills can only be used in combination with an action UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE, which isn't the case with block, guard etc.You can only use skills once in your own action. So this rule doesn't apply.

The player's own action. Not anyone elses. Being blocked is not your action, its your opponents.Remco wrote: But that would mean you couldn't use block and guard when being blocked, because skills can only be used in combination with an action UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE, which isn't the case with block, guard etc.

Erm you can use block when you are getting blocked and thats not your own action. Skills say when they can only be used once per team turn, such as dodge and break tackle. You can use the block skill against any block you recieve in a turn or for any number of blocks you throw in a turn (only really for frenzy players and they only get the second block on a push)

Here is one for you, probably a bit odd ball but I've had a cold for the last couple of days so I'll blame it on that. When it says team turn is it only talking about during your team turn or does it include the opponents turn, or is your turn and your opponents turn 2 seperate team turns? I'm asking as something like dodge could get affected. Example, it block someone with dodge and get the dodge result for a push back, now a second guy hits them and gets a dodge result. Can they use dodge again since it is still the same team turn. Also what if they later wanted to pass block but failed their dodge could they use their dodge skill to reroll it as it's still the team turn. Or is it just really talking about your turn and I've totally lost it (not that that was a very long trip)?Grumbledook wrote:Erm you can use block when you are getting blocked and thats not your own action. On page 34 of the LRB, it says under the general notes for all skills that a given skill can only be used once per action unless otherwise stated (and traits may be used any number of times per action).plasmoid wrote:Hey guys!
You're talking Jervis' terrible 4th ed.
In BB2K there is no general rule putting restrictions on how many times you can use a skill. However, they did change some of the skills to only be used once per turn. But not all.
Martin
However, this does not state how many times it can be used when not being used as part of an action. I think in 4th ed, it was stated that you could use a skill (stand firm etc) any number of times in your opponents turn. I couldn't find that rule in the LRB though. So I guess you could make the argument that since you are not making an action when you use these skills, the rule doesn't count, and therefore you can use them as many times as you like.
Hope that helps.

Skills that only can be used once have this specification on it's description. Now an interesting thing to remember is that you choose to use the skill or not, maybe you prefer to place prone your player instead of using dodge, because if you don't do this he will be send out of the pitch by a frenzied player on next block....

Wrong approach everyone
The skills block and dodge aren't used when a player is being blocked/blitzed.
They simply affect the rolls of the blocking dice.
Dodge is negated when the blocker/blitzer has tackle.

Or you can only use the Catch skill once to catch a bouncing ball - so if it bounces back to you, you can't use catch again.
Back to the original question - because each of the blocks thrown against your player are seperate actions you can use the Block skill on both.
Now by a literal interpretation of this if you were being blocked by a frenzied player and he rolled POW/Push on the 1st block then you couldn't use dodge to negate another POW/Push on the 2nd block.2. All skills may be used once per action unless stated otherwise. Traits may be used an unlimited number of times per action unless stated otherwise. For example, a Beastman with Two Heads may add +1 to every Dodge roll he makes.
