AV 7 vs AV 8 Teams...

Post by Nagash »

... well basically I´m just interested in learning more about the differences between the "2" teams for league play.... which is the "best"? - scores most td´s, kills, wins, losses...etc... any good statistics for casualties suffered during the course of a season perhaps?

- basically ANYTHING - :?: - that will shed some light on the difference (pros and cons) of managing either a AV7 or AV8 team... should be interesting to learn about....

Av7 and Av8 teams vary wildly. The 4 Av7 teams are all very different and play very differently. The same applies to Av8 teams - Chaos and Humans and High Elves are very different creatures.

In general Av7 means 50% more casualties than Av8. Block or Dodge drop this to 20% - combined they make you less likely to have your armour penetrated.

oki - but what teams then has the tendency to win tournaments? ... and can that be connected to the AV7-AV8 difference?

Just surf the net for different BB leagues and tournaments. Allmost all have data from matches and league standings. Then you can come to your own conclusions.
From what i understand AV doesnt matter as much as how you use them.
If you apply the right tactics and know your weaknesses (as well as your opponents) you will do well. Exeptions beeing the goblin/halfling teams of course.

Your armour won't make you win a tournament, your coaching skill will :) Go with what play style suits you the best, hard hitting, deftly agile or a mix...

The best coaches win tournaments, not the best teams. Thankfully BB is relatively well balanced in this regard.

Like Ithilkir said, play a team that suits your natural style of play and you will do better than playing a team because you think its stronger than another.

League and Tournament are a bit different.

In a league modus the major disadvantage of AV7 is that you can't do much about it. Players can learn block, dodge or get ST/AG +1, but (except for spikes) players will have to stick with AV7. In the long run, this may lead to more injuries and death for a AV7 team than, for example, for dwarfs or orcs with AV9 or a human team with AV8.

Bashy teams may get MB, piling on or claws after a while, making it a bit nasty to play against with an AV7 team (well, also with an AV8 team). :o

And yes, eventually your mighty wardancer is some day part of the famous players of the past....while a dwarfen blitzer may live for a very long time.

Tournament games are different in that your opponent doesn't have so many AV reducing skills so that your players are more likely to stay on the pitch.

IMO you need at least a bit of dice luck to inflict cas during a tournament game and surely AV8 helps, compared to AV7. (yes, I know you can push it with a mummy awith piling on  ) But theses games are about winning at all costs and not about saving your players, so I would go with the team that suits you most. Otherwise take dwarfs!

By the way, I think skaven did pretty well in the tournys lately and have AV7. :o So AV7 seems not to have that much impact as coaching abilities!

In my experience, both are just as good. I had a team of Chaos Dwarfs which won the Bloodbowl. When I had tallied up the number of CA in one season (50+ games), I had well over 300 CA's and had only won 2 major tournaments. My TD's were way lower, in fact, my Wood Elf team now has almost as much in about 25 games.

It really depends on how many players are playing in a tournament and on what kind of other teams are present.

Also, a lot of tournaments (most?) bring the roster back to it's original after each game, so the loss of a players only effects that game, rather than the long term development.

Hmm my choas dwarf team in the fumbbl has suffered the most deaths from all the teams in the open division and not all of them were hobgoblins.

As said before, all the teams are balanced for the most part, so the armour difference doesn't have to much to do with winning or losing. Low AV take more casualties but are generally faster (Skaven & Woodies), harder to knock down ('Zons & Norse), or cheap (Gobbos & Halflings). Whereas higher AV teams are slower and have the potential to do more damage.
I've played WE and skaven who had the most TDs in the league and CD who had the most casualties. So it really depends on how you play em and if they fit your style. A coach who likes to run about dodging like crazy will probubly not do to well with a high AV team because they're not cut out for that playing style. Likewise, a coach who wants to steamroller down the field will get smeared playing with a low AV team. If you don't know what style fits you, you can always just play humans or high elves because they can do anythingwith a little luck and correct development.

Although low AV teams do suffer a few more casulties I tend to find that because they are often harder to hit and avoid such a hard hitting game in playing style the player losses balance out a bit.

The real Krunch :o matches tend to happen when two strength teams play toe-to-toe on the rushing game.

Skaven are the exception to the rule, there. The extra movement and the 3 ag don't help you get out of someone else's tackle zone. On the bright side, they're easy to replace...

a good AV 7 team are the amazons, hard to hit (cause they will soon have a lot of blodgers)
and not so bad in grinding your oppenent down.
Their strength is the ST3 across the board and dodge and the cheap RR.
You will soon have seven or eight blodgers with four of them guard(your blitzers).
