Fend/SideStep/Frenzy

Post by Buggrit »

I've got an interesting query...

A player with Frenzy blocks a player with Sidestep and Fend and gets the push back. The Sidestepper moves to a square adjacent to the Blocker, can the blocking player hit them again (being frenzied and having their target still in a tackle zone) despite not being able to follow up on the first block?

I'll try and show you what I mean with a bad pictogram

D=Sidestep/Fend/Defender
B=Blocker

LRB5, pg.66:
When making a block, a player with [Frenzy] must always follow up if they can. If a 'Pushed' or 'Defender Stumbles' result was chosen, the player must immediately throw a second block against the same opponent so long as they are both still standing and adjacent.
Normally, Fend would effectively cancel Frenzy because you are pushed away from and no longer adjacent to the frenzied player. However, because you are Side-Stepping and still adjacent after the first block is thrown, Frenzy kicks in and you are eligible to be blocked a second time.

And, if I may say so, that pictogram was quite awesome. :wink:

If you Sidestep next to the Frenzy player than Frenzy will still work.

For this same reason, Stand Firm does not negate Frenzy either.

Strangely, Frenzy is negated 100% by Fend alone, but not by a player with Sidestep and Fend.

So normally Fend negates Frenzy, but if some poor elf player takes sidestep, then he kinda screws himself over with respect to Frenzy?! :o Thinking of these things makes my head hurt!!!!

Only if he chooses to 'Sidestep' to next to the Frenzy player.

What if it was a blitz action?

Could the frenzied blitzer follow up (with 1 movement) then throw the 2nd block?

No, as Frenzy allows you to make two blocks in succession, whereas what you described would be a block/move/block.
